I need a new rifle
«
on:
September 19, 2008, 08:31:03 AM »
I think I need a new rifle, it will be a 204 or 223. Help me choose.
1. Another Tikka/ Sako bolt gun.
2. TC Encore.
3. An AR-15
thanks

An AR-15 would be cool for coyote hunting and misc. target shooting. 223 ammo is cheap. Go with the AR-15.

Buy one of each and give me one, Carl!
Ask Rick how he liked his Encore. Or his Remmy AR platform. I think his is in 204.
I love my Tikka, but as I said in your other thread, I am thinking about selling it and getting a Pro-Hunter.

If it were me Id do the AR. Fun and cheap to shoot, tons of upgrades, and in this unstable policital climate, might be a thing of the past, but YOU"LL have one. Just my
. Oh and Id buy the 223 and save some pennies then buy a 204 upper.

You and me are about on the same page Sagedawg, your idea is exactly what I am thinking. I think a TC will be the last gun banned, so get the AR, now in 223, a few 20 round mags.
get a 204 comlete upper later and that requires no papers!! get a TC down the road some time. It really sucks to time your gun buys by the political clock.

I agree, AR-15 in .223. I'm sure you already have several bolts, nad as much as I like my Contender, I like the AR just a little more.

If you chose the AR, check out Olympic Arms, they make great AR's and it is local.

Thanks all, I went to OLy Arms yesterday Lunatic!! I am liking the UM-1($1150.00) and the ML-2($1026.00). but then I thought about the K-16($about 750.00) with a trigger job in 223, and then order a complete upper from DTech in 204.

One thing with Oly Arms AR's they recommend that you do not use Wolf ammo due to lacquer build up in the chamber.

the wolf ammo is bad for all guns. the reason that the Ar's don't like them is most people don't clean the chambers after every shooting session like they should. the gun had problems in the 60's and it is the same problem today. keep it clean.
that said the AR is the best of most of the pinking and song and rat shooting I want to do. yes expect the prices to go up.
Deven from SNS in snohomish makes a great lower. he and i built my gun in his shop in a hour. my first. not my last. i am buying a receiver to throw in the safe and get parts to a nother for sh ts and giggles

Carl, I have the Encore Pro Hunter in 22-250 and 300 Win Mag. The 22-250 is a tack driver.
I vote for the Encore. You wanna shoot mine?

I'd get yourself an AR now just incase the Dems take office and make another run at an assault weapons ban. You can always get the other guns later. I'll second the comment on the Wolf ammo, that stuff makes for some messy weapons. I won't shoot it in my AR.
