Best Way to Hunt Whitetail??
« on: September 20, 2008, 11:45:48 AM »
I am going for only my second whitetail hunt after hunting muleys for over 40 years.  The land we are hunting has two large meadows with a creek and trees down the middle.  Above the meadows is about 1 1/2 miles of timber up to Boise land.  DHow far do the whiteys go from the meadow to bed??  would it be best to come in a little ways from the Boise land and sit, or keep moving down to 1/4 mile or so from the meadow?   In the evening we are going to use a blind at an upper meadow where we planted deer graze in the spring and will saturate with Cumeredeer in the middle.  Actually going for muzzle elk, but would like to get a whitey buck as it is open too.  Thanks for any insight

In October the bucks will be the last to arrive and the first to leave. Hunt closer to the meadows in the afternoon (to maximize daylight) and higher up near likely bedding areas in the morning. Be sure not to compromise likely approaches with your scent on the way in.

Good luck!
