Bersa .380 Thunder, my wife loves it.  Right around $300, not nearly the recoil of the smaller Ruger .380.  very nice gun for carry.
I will agree with you on the recoil. I just got rid of a Bersa to get the Ruger LCP. Definately more recoil, but it is smaller and fits better in a pocket.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

Depending on her stature, a youth 20 gauge pump shotgun with short barrel and #4 shot would be about ideal. If you insist on going a handgun route, others’ suggestion of a revolver would be the best choice. An SP101 .357 loaded up with .38 Special + p would get the job done.

Of course, whatever you decide, practice practice practice.

This is what my fiance' carries a S&W model 60 357mag lady smith with federal 38 special hydra-shocks in it. It being full stainless steel and having wood grips the recoil is very manageable. she really likes that is has an exposed hammer for practice sessions allowing for her to be much more accurate than focusing solely on double action shooting the whole time. She has three different holsters for it a Galco IWB, Galco classic lite shoulder rig and high ride hip holster and will be getting a flash bang holster for her asap there is no excuse for carrying in a purse IMHO. I almost forgot to add that i picked this up at federal way discount used for $549.00.

SP101 .357 loaded with .38+P.......brilliant. Heavier frame will have little recoil and still pack a punch. Great suggestion, thanks.

I think she needs to wrap her hands around as many grips as she can to find a comfortable one.  I have smaller hands for a guy and most semi-autos over 9mm are way too fat for me.  Even a lot of 9s are too big.

Next week, we will be starting a search for a handgun for Weathergirl.  We will be going to Greenes Gun Shop on the north end of Whidbey.  They have guns you can try out.

Need more comments....I come back to the thread and that pic pops up....gonna get me fired! However......I STILL don't see the gun....is on the far side hip? Hmmm....let me check.

I've sent out a "thought process" type email to my friend. Basically once she decides.....revolver vs. semi.....I think the decision will be fairly easy. Heck...already have at least one member of the site offering a piece for sell.

Have her go to a range and rent several different weapons.  Pick the one that she is most comfortable and proficient  with.

Ruger LCR 380.  Nothing to go wrong, just pull the trigger.  If the situation arises, I want the simplest thing around, because we all know what will be going through their mind. :twocents:

S&W Airweight, very light, nice rubber grips.  Easy on recoil, easy to conceal, my wife has no prob shooting it with the 38 +P rounds.  Revolver, no way to mess it up, point and shoot.  Fairly inexpensive, I think I paid $389 in stainless for mine at White Elephant.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
