favorite predator hunting gun....go!

I've only hunted Yotes for about a year now, but have taken two with my Stevens 94 .410 (slug) at 35 and about 50 yards(vitals shot)

Wish I could get them in that close.  Lately I've been carrying my AR in 20 LBC. (6.5 Grendel necked down to .204).
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

270 90 gr hollow point 3250 fps extremely good accuracy at 1/2 inch groups or higher load same bullet at .80 inch groups average at 3500 fps. Either way it destroys coyotes.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

Couldn't agree with you more, my father used a Remington 700 (.223) in the ranger battalion and told me it could drop any Taliban soldier within 500 yards! :chuckle:

Seen that in Big R the other day, looked interesting but the Howa name scared me off.
Maybe I'll look closer next time.

I didn't know anything about the Howa's other than some entry level bargan priced youth guns I've looked at.
So I seen the Howa sticker and kept walking.

Kind of like the early Savage guns.

Far, far from a savage. Even todays savage.

I've got a Kimber M84 Varmint model with a 24" Stainless fluted match barrel and 3 lb. trigger in 22-250 topped with a VX-III in 8.5-25.

Just got the scope recently and removed the cheap crappy BSA that I had on the gun.  Night and day difference in clarity obviously.

Can not wait to shoot some prairie dogs in Montana in May.

Remington 788 in .22-250 with Simmons 4x12 on it for now or Marlin XT-22 in .22 mag with Leupold 1x4.

100ish yards with no worries, but prefer 50 to 75 as a max, that's why I have the .22-250.

i've always used my .308's.. whichever one I had in hand.. killed one with the Abolt  '06 when I had it(7 paces), and one with the mossberg turkey load when I called one in turkey hunting(40 paces). I finally have a match grade .223, so I suppose I'll have to try it...

Are you talking about a .22 LR or a .22 mag?  If just a .22 LR I would keep it at 50-75 yrds max, depending on which shells you are shooting.

Wounding is a possibility with anything you shoot at them with.  Right behind the shoulder into the chest and they are done.

In closer cover I use a12ga over 5.6x50R Mag. Combo gun with a 1x4 leupold on it.  The shotgun handles the close in stuff and the rifle barrel is good for 300+ yrs on coyotes.

Out in more open countru I use a 22--204 or 6mm-204 both on savage actions with 1.5x6x40mm scopes one by Burris and the other an Alpen optics.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

Until recently it was a 22/250 savage 12 lrpv with a 5-22 nightforce scope.  :bash: :bash:. Now I will be back to the .220 swift pre 64.

just picked up a ruger American in .243, I am in love with this gun pulled it out of the box threw a scope on it bore sighted it, first three rounds about a quarter size group, 2 inches high and 1 inch to the left, adjusted and fired 6 more rounds was in the same grouping just dead on at 100 yards, cheapest rifle I have ever bought its my new farm gun love it, looking forward to killing some yotes and deer in the upcoming season.
