Looking for a powder?
« on: January 27, 2013, 01:49:06 PM »
I am starting to reload for the .380 Auto and 9mm. I'm currently using 700x, because I already had some on hand. But I don't like the way it dispenses, it seems to clump and dump at once, I suspect because it's a flake type powder.
Does anyone know of a spherical  or ball powder, that will work for both calibers?

:yeah:  That's what I'm using, now that I ran out of that dirty Unique!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I have been using blue dot and have not had problems. But I haven't really tried anything else yet

I read about a reletively new spherical powder by Hodgdon named Titegroup.  It is listed as a choice for both .380 and 9mm (in the 2013 Hodgdon manual).
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

The only problem I'm having with 700x is, when you dispence fron the powder hopper, it tends to clump, and dump into  the pan in large volume. Having to reset, because of over throws is a pain...... But it shoots pretty well....

Might look at Accurate No. 2 (spherical).  I used HP-38 (flake style) and didn't have the clumping problem, but it would stick to everything...the pour spout, the side of the cases, side of the powder hopper.  it was annoying, but works good.

HP-38 or W-231, basically the same powder. meters verl well on my powder measures. The only issues I have with it is wiping the residue out of my powder hopper and that is simply becuase I like a clean hopper between loaing sessions and different powders.
