Jellyhead and Flight control wads
« on: February 01, 2013, 10:25:21 PM »
I am thinking about buying a primos jellyhead for my benelli M2. I am just wondering if the ports in the choke will affect the pattern from the flight control wads. I read that ported chokes dont work well with them, but i am thinking maybe only wad stripping chokes will really have much of an affect on them. Just wondering if anyone has tried this combo so I might have an idea of what to expect. I have just been using the factory full choke but I am looking for something that could allow a bit more range if it were to be needed.

Not at all in my gun. I ran a jelly head for years with my 12g bps and flight controlled wads. Smashed a lot of birds with that combo. Now I try to just kill them with stick and string until I get mad :chuckle:

I am running the same setup. Shoots good patterns.

I've read many articles saying ported chokes are not ideal for the FC wads, but I use them in a T/C encore with a ported choke and at 25yds the pattern is about the sizes of a softball. Longest shot was 48yds and the bird fell like a sack of flour. I don't think the stories were anything more than propaganda to sell the flight control chokes.

Same here. I use an Undertaker choke that is ported as well. I get the best patterns out of Federal FC 2oz #6. Last spring my turkey at 45 yards didn't seem to notice any problems with the ported choke ;-)

That's the exact combo I use in my 870. I've never had anything other than excellent patterning and dead birds.

Mine works good. Not a jelly head choke but a Carlson and it ported but doesn't seem to effect my pattern much
