Has the grip been removed lately? Sounds like the detent is gone.

yes I changed the grip out. How would it have done this? Im not at home right now but will look at this when I am.

Where are you located? I have the parts you need. If we can meet somewhere you can have them.

I am in Granite Falls. Thats a great offer. I just ordered a lower spring kit for $7.79 so that didn't seem too bad. I checked Midway and and they are backorderd (seems they are always backordered on everything they list but no one else is. Tired of Midway but thats another thread) They wanted $1.99 + $4.00 S/H + $3.00 for minimum order. So $8.99 for a spring. I don't think so.

That is indeed a great offer.  If it doesn't pan out, PM me.  I may be able to help.  No way a spring should cost more than a coupla bucks!  :o
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

You guys are . I appreciate the offers. Stand up thing to do. Pretty difficult to find the spring by itself but as a kit the price wasn't bad (no S/H or tax) and will have some spares.

  Glad its an easy/cheap fix.

My tip of the day, do a function check everytime you do something to a firearm.  I do them even after cleaning just to make sure I put it back together right.

Just for future reference, the Citizen's Armory is a great place for little AR-15 parts.

The parts are priced fair and the most important thing, they have very reasonable shipping charges.

http://www.thecitizensarmory.com/SafetySelector-Detent-Spring_p_48.html

Here's the safety detent spring for $1.  It will cost 70 cents to ship it USPS First Class  :) .
