Snohomish County Sheriff's View on Gun Control

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 23, 2013

The following statement is in response to multiple inquiries regarding Sheriff John Lovick's statement on proposed changes to federal gun laws:

As Sheriff elected twice by the citizens of Snohomish County, I swore to support, defend and obey the Constitution AND laws of the United States of America.  At this time, there have been no changes to federal or state gun laws.  As a law enforcement agency, it is not our role to comment on or criticize policy recommendations – it is our job to uphold and defend the laws of our county, state and country.  If new federal or state gun laws are passed, I will discuss the best way to follow the spirit of those laws with Snohomish county leadership, Washington state legislators, and my colleagues at other law enforcement agencies.

Typical politician answer. He never truly answered the question. Only a blanket statement to CYA.  :rolleyes:

WA state law does not require county sheriffs to furnish individual gun ownership and CPL information to the feds. I was pretty pleased to hear from Sheriff Lucas of Clark Co. that he would not voluntarily supply this information and that the state law would need to be changed for him to do so. Sounds like the Snohomish Co. sheriff is missing some intestinal fortitude. Maybe someone should speak with him about this law.
