Alpha Max upgrade project.

Okay long story short I love my Alpha Max 32. Can't imagine living without it.  I need new cams though because my draw length is 27" and my AM32 only adjusts down to 28". 

Have had a heck of a time trying to find some XTR cams for it. But I did some research and found out that I can put the new RKT CAMS on an Alpha Max.  So this is what I'm going to do. I'm also going to attempt to swap out my cable slide for a roller guard. That and its time to change out my strings and cables. So in essence I will have a "2013 Alpha Max" Seems guys who have done this gain 8fps in speed and can get 5lbs more of draw weight. So in essence for $120 I could gain about 15fps in speed.  Plus it'll he smoother with a better valley and let off.  If anyone is interested here is where I found it.

This is a great upgrade but be aware that your string and cable lengths will change and you wont be able to get the right lengths from hoyt. The #2 RKT cams on an alphamax will have different lengths than a #2 RKT on a vector, because of different ata and brace heights.  PM Ray knight on archery talk, he does this with many hoyt bows and probably has the lengths figured out for that bow already. And I would not change out the cable slide for rollers. Static rollers that dont bend introduce a lot of torque into the bow and tend to cause tuning issues, especially on hoyts. Hoyts with rollers tend to tune with the rest inside of true centershot with quite a bit of cam lean at rest. With your cable slide you will tune closer to center with hardly any cam lean. Rollers are fine if already on the bow, but theyre not worth the trouble of switching out in my opinion.

Jellymon thank you for the heads up on the rollers vs slide.  I was undecided anyways and what you said just made up my mind.  I got the rkt cam idea from ray Knight. He said for a "smooth" type set up take the string and cable lengths for a Alpha Max bow and order strings the same length but order the buss cable 1/8" shorter and the control cable 1/8" longer.  For a "fast" type set up order the buss cable 1/4" shorter and the string 1/2" shorter.  As soon as I get it done I'll let everyone know the outcome

Sounds like you got it covered! You will love the RKT's, smoother than the XTR, and much smoother than the fuel. The valley is a little bigger than both as well, and has more of a locked in feel. Letoff is about the same. Speed will be just a hair faster, any major speed gain will be from increased poundage. Youre basically going to end up with a 2012 hoyt that tunes slightly better! That sounds awesome.  Cant wait to start on this project.  Thanks again on the roller vs slide thing.  I will Keep you posted but from the sounds of it everyone who has done it said they basically got a brand new top of the line bow for the price of new cams.
