Blackmouth report 2/9/2013
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:59:38 AM »
I've decided to give it another try yesterday :bash: and catch me a Blackmouth  :chuckle: Friday night checked weather report ,refueld and got the rest ready . Hit the PP and Useless bay - it was perfect weather and there was couple other boats and seals (you could see their acrobatics on sonar )around . Got few shakers in the 8"-10" range and this little guy on picture at PP  (he got released ). At 4pm we were back at the launch in Everett and the checker said she checked 16 boats - no fish  :yike:
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?

It used to be I couldn't wait for February to start black mouth fishing, growing up I could run out there and count in catching a keeper or two, and lots of shakers. Last couple times I've gone it's been pretty dead. Haven't fished them in years now. If you're caching lings you're doing it right, just gotta find a hungry silver one.

I don't have the answer to your question Singleshot12, there is too many variables that play key role in fish numbers and places .Bait availability is very important for BM  = resident chinook . They don't venture out of Puget sound like other Chinook, maybe there is more feed for the candlefish, hering and squid around San Juans right now and therefore the BM hangs around the area 7.
Anyway ,if you have the chance get out do it .Like COHOHO said "at least you were out " :chuckle: I just wish I had bigger and better boat and more money ,so I could take more guys fishing.....but I don't :bash:

As soon as I get my new boat I'll be out there. We can hook up Cap and try to get some dinner!

We went out Sunday. Fished the racetrack. Had a seal on our tail for the first three hours. First hookup and he dove and grabbed it. I pulled back nd managed to pull in a 22" wild fish missing half it's tail. The seal hammered him right next to the boat about five feet under the boat. He took one other fish, had a few shakers, and landed one keeper about 26 "

I don't get my vacation time until March 28 so I can't take off a weekday. I like the mini tourney idea.

I just figured out a way to take off either Thursday or Friday, depending on the weather. If you still want to do a tourney let me know.
