Buck and Bull down
« on: September 24, 2008, 10:30:17 PM »
well I filled my Margret tag this is obviously not the bull I was hoping for but 8 days of close calls,my fathers tag to fill and no more vacation led to me letting fly on this spiker. I need to say that on the first day after hiking 8 miles and a two hour stalk/calling I got a shot at the best bull i scouted all summer. I hit his shoulder and got an inch and a half of penitration; it really broke me down and if i am honest i had a really hard time getting back into my hunt. I can't really explain it but I couldn't seem to recover. I had two other very close calls at herd bulls but just could not put it together. I did get this nice little buck and I got to shoot the squeaker bull with my wife who was up for the weekend and that was way cool. Overall despite the disappointment it was one of my best hunts with tons of sweet memories.

Nice job Matt. Did anyone else tag out this week down there? Dad getting close? I will be down tonight, and Alex was coming down on wed. Hopefully we can get it done here in the next few days. Are the bulls anymore fired up? Hope to see you this weekend, good luck.

Nubbins!

Good work man. Enjoy the elk. I know what you mean about getting the wind takin out of your sails...

Shoulder shot with minimal penetration...sounds like he would pull through ok. Take solice in that.

Good work on the deersky to.

I have shot multiple whitetail over 160 and a couple over 180. I can't get a decent little black tail to save my life. :chuckle: Good job I would love to get a little deer like that. I would actually probable have it mounted. I just need one to finish my collection.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Congratulations on the double success!  You met Billy and Trisha (you saw her bull) at the Toutle store the other day.  They have the Toutle tags, I just call and pack meat! :chuckle:  He told me about your hunt, too bad on the big bull, but at least you have some excellent table fare!  Almost got Billy his today.  10 yards and bugling at us, but a fir tree in the way.  He couldn't get a clear shot.  Still a lot of fun though!

Dude,

Nice buck and bull, that is supercool (one word, I saw it defined on MTV).  With your wife there?!  Awesome.  She looks as excited as you are so good work keeping the little woman involved in helping round up dinner.  I can relate about not being able to get back into it, but you gotta keep on truckin'.  I missed a dandy bull earlier this year and was about to pack it up for a couple days and rest but stuck with it and wound up whackin' a good one about 2 hours later.  Its hard to keep your head in it but at least you thumped a spike and nice Blacktail.  Nice job.
