HB1788 – Safer Schools Act of 2013

I have not had time to look at this closely, but it looks like one we would want to support.  It was referred to the House Judiciary Committee today (2-8-13)

Agreed – Looks like it is headed in the right direction-

Imagine there will be grief in liberal areas where scary "GUN-FREE ZONE" signs posted around school facilities giving warning of the prohibition of the possession of firearms on school grounds is all that’s needed.
The training will be an eye opener for many – a good thing.
Would be interesting to know the variable policies on crisis management before and after in reference to armed school intrusions.
Whimper & hide or smile and politely give them what they want..will become a sweep, front sight, center mass double tap, sweep…oh yea then call 911.

Teaches may even learn how to defend themselves and straighten some of the gang bangers punks out. An armed society may again become a polite society.
May even start reciting the Pledge of allegiance in classes again- who know where this will lead!

"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it." -- Tom Paine
The hour is fast approaching, on which the Honor, Success and safety of our bleeding Country depends

Copy and Paste message:

Dear members of the House Judiciary Committee:

I am writing today to respectfully ask that you give your support to HB1788 – Safer Schools Act of 2013.  This is ‘common sense’ legislation that will help create safer school environments for our children.  There will always be malevolent souls, like the criminals who commit mass murders that will always exploit a variety of instruments in the pursuit of evil.  To think that a sign stating the school is a ‘Gun Free Zone’ will prevent such evil acts is ludicrous.  To leave our children in an environment without any chance of defense makes no sense at all.  Please support HB1788 – Safer Schools Act of 2013.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

[Your contact information]

Also, please consider contacting your state Senator and Representatives to respectfully ask them to support HB1788 should it make it to the House floor.  You can use the same text that was used for the email to the House Judiciary Committee.

Thanks for the cut and paste.  I added a paragraph to the beginning to personalize it a little.

As an ex-teacher and high school rifle team coach, I have talked with several of my previous students regarding this issue.  Every one of them indicated they would have felt safe knowing that their teachers, including myself, had the ability to defend them and other students if the need would have arisen. I am also married to a teacher that believes she should have the right to use her CPL while in the classroom to protect herself and her students.

I hope this hits home with our legislators.

All of us need to know that not only should we communicate with our Representatives as individuals, we need to urge our family, friends, and colleagues to do the same.  Our unified voice in large numbers will definitely make a difference.

"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

Letter Sent!

I tweaked your letter a bit to add a personal touch. Thanks for your write ups! They make it extremely easy to have a voice in the process. You keep posting and we'll keep writing!

Dear members of the House Judiciary Committee:

As a current student teacher at WWU and a future full time teacher for the State of Washington, I am writing today to respectfully ask that you give your support to HB1788 – Safer Schools Act of 2013. This is ‘common sense’ legislation that will help create safer school environments for our children. There will always be criminals who commit mass murders and who will  exploit a variety of instruments in the pursuit of evil. To think that a sign stating the school is a ‘Gun Free Zone’ will prevent such evil acts is part of the reason the violent attacks in our nations schools have occurred. These violent murders know that schools are soft targets, void of any defenses. To leave our children in an environment without any chance of defense makes no sense at all. Passage of HB1788 will allow myself and other law abiding gun owners employed in our State's schools, to truly protect the lives of students we are entrusted with. A great deal of the impact of HB 1788 will be the full disclosure to potential perpetrators of heinous acts of violence that schools are no longer soft targets! Please support HB1788 – Safer Schools Act of 2013.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

This is common sense gun law reform. Please take a minute and add your voice, your children's lives may depend on it!
