I wouldn't pay that much for a trained wife.

Good luck finding one of those!  You might as well ask for a unicorn also.

Sounds like Johnny had more money then brains, and now they're about equal.

I am not here to defend this Johnny2910.
But what I will defend is the asking price of his dog if it was trained and actually did what it was trained to do.   $6500.00 for a fully trained dog is a good deal.   Do a little home work you will find this is a fair price.  There are many good Retriever Kennels talked about on here.  A started Lab from them will go anywhere from $2500.00 to $5000.00.  A started Pointing dog $2500.00 and up.  I am talking about started dogs not a finished one.
If you had a pointing dog you wanted to field trail, the "average price" to put an FC on that dog is $10,000.00.  If you want to chase a National title just keep your check book out.
For just the average hunter think about what you put into your own dog over the span of 10 years!   Heck my largest vet bill for one of my dogs 2 years ago was over $11,000.00,  I ate top ramon and peanut butter for 6 months to pay it off but I would do it again.
You have to look at the overall opportunity cost of training yourself  or just paying the price up front to have a push button dog  from the very beginning.
What Johnny did wrong was not research the kennel, trainer etc. etc..   Anyone can have a fancy web site, one needs to look at the finished products.

Geeez
For that money the dog should be able to drive the friggin truck and make lunch.

Dogs are color blind and have poor hygene.  I wouldn't want them making lunch and driving.
Solid point there, Knocker.

Lol. Have you ever owned a dog before? If so you wouldn't be paying 6500, or honestly, you shouldn't own a dog if you need to pay that much to train them.

For $6500 the dog should be able to use the inter net himself

Ha! And he probably wouldn't have spent that change on himself either.

I really surprises me that people will actually buy a dog for any amount without going and checking out the dog in person  :dunno:

I've sold 2 litters of weimaraner pups, and only 2 people came to see the pups in person.  almost all the buyers were non-hunters, but still....
the buyers are lucky that I have some kind of morals when it comes to dogs..  :chuckle:

I have 1 hunter that bought a pup from me and he has never seen the pup in person. doesn't ask any questions about the pup,  I literally have to go through and make up questions to answer for him. lol  :chuckle:   granted I sold my pups for cheap. and I don't train them for people.

but paying $6500 and not going out to see the dog in person.  :dunno: :dunno:  pretty dumb.

my male weimaraner  obeys all my command very good.  when I give commands to him he's the best trained dog in the world (imo.)   but if anyone else tries giving him commands,... well you're talking to deaf ears.

that is why buyers should go out and work a bit with the trainer and dog.

WOW! I only spent 350.00 for my soup hound. Great dog does everything I trained it to do.

Remember folks....Dog's are only as smart as their owners!!

There are always two sides to a story. I bet Roger Sigler might have an interesting story about a crazy customer from Texas.

I wouldn't pay that price without a trial anyways.  I once bought a Walker Hound finished out from rig to tree on cats for 4,500 which is a steal for a good cat dog, but I got to hunt her for a week before paying.  Hunted her for a couple years, finished some pups out and also sold her for 4, 500.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

I wouldn't pay $6500 for a dog I don't care how many sheds it could find!
