Trail cam camo idea...
«
on:
February 18, 2013, 12:20:59 PM »
So....a while back a member posted a pic of a great job they did disguising their trail cam. My brother in law and I went in on a new Bushnell and I plan to decorate the outside of the box. The member I mentioned used some type of clay or putty to texture the outside almost like bark. It was painted up and looked good. Any suggestions on what I can use that will harden, be workable, take the paint, and be waterproof?

plaster of paris might work and make a mold or something. you'd probably need to seal it with some sort of waterproof spray or paint.

+1 Bondo would be my first option. its cheap and you can make it look how ever you want. hardens well sands easily for further customizing the look and is paintable

Whatever you use, pay cose attention to the SMELL. Some materials offgas a chemical odor for a long time, and critters go through life nose-first!

Here's a few pics of what I've done so far. When I set them, I usually scrounge together some deadfall, ferns, leaves, branches, pine bows, etc to help blend the cam in even more. I also spray them down with some scent eliminating spray when I hang them.

Alittle Hydrographing on a trail cam is worth testing. I think I may pick up a kit soon myself and see If I can sell some camo patterns to some of my buddies
it would really look cool on a trail cam. Im thinking at the least, hydrodip the ammo case instead of painting it.

easier to get a security box and use bondo and paint it on the outside to make it look like bark.

I just modified an old electrical breaker box and camo'd it with a few colors of Krylon rattle-can paint. Got to go see if it's still there so I can put my cam out again. (Left the box there when I took the cam home when winter came.)
