Steelhead Fishing Guide Stamp Legislation
« on: February 21, 2013, 11:05:16 PM »
HB 1917 was introduced on 2/18 and had a hearing on 2/20. Essentially it would require that current fishing guides also obtain a steelhead stamp if they will be guiding for steelhead fishing on rivers.

So if they don't fish and don't have a lic then they need to get one... Is that the basic idea? How big of an issue is this really?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

After listening to the video from the 20th. This is about the Forks guides association drumming this up to keep guides from afar off the West end rivers. Its ok for them to catch and release the same fish day in and day out but not Joe from the other side of the mountain.

If a fish has a 5% mort rate when c and r'd. What if its caught 10 times? I garentee the same fish get caught over and over.

They do.  I would guess it keeps going up each time caught, too.  Also makes them so weak they can't escape other predators--lots of fish taken by otters and seals.  There were seals this year by the rearing ponds and hatcheries in Forks.

I think you were listening to 1896 Bill...
1917 was at the end and has to do with more requirements for Steelie guides. Forks guides are looking for a way to keep out of town guides out of Forks...
