If you only had one rifle

If you only had one rifle and it was Rem 700 Sendero .300 RUM what load would you use for predators at all ranges?

Maybe a 180 grain Nosler Accubond. I think that would do the trick, at short and long distances.

I would use the same thing I was using for big game or target practice or whatever you are using it for.  I wouldn't change loads based on what I am shooting at.  Change rifles, yes, loads, no.

With a name screen name like 300rum you would know!
Think a 150 gr Scirocco at 3450 fps will handle all WA game?

I am more of a heavy bullet guy.  Just a personal thing.  I am worried about burning a barrel up way too quick pushing anything at that velocity for too long.

If your accuracy is acceptable, then it is probably just fine.  I really don't have a clue how long a barrel would last a wild guess would be not too long or at least not long enough for me?  I just couldn't get them to stabilize well enough at those velocities and didn't think I was giving anything up going with a 180gr (at least) bullet.

No need for that much speed. A 180 grain bullet will have a higher BC and still more than enough velocity for a very flat trajectory out of that RUM. Also will do better in the wind.

The only reason to go with a 150 is if you're wanting less recoil.

With a rum you aren't utilizing it to potential unless you are 200+ grains. I would say 215 Berger's at 2950 but I can't find them anywhere... so 210 Berger at 2900 it is! Big or small game near or far.  :twocents:
I have a sendero 300 rum too!

I know I am just above win mag velocitys but my gun shoots them well and brass lasts for ever.

I surely wouldn't argue with the 200+ grain bullets either. That's what the 300 RUM is made for. You could shoot 150's out of a 308 Winchester. With the RUM a 180 grain is a light bullet.

do some checking, but i'm pretty sure the accubond and sst have the same BC, and you could probably use same load data for both, an expensive tough bullet, and a softer, much cheaper bullet.. everything else the same..
