I used to fish Rock Lake while at WSU. Yes there are rattle snakes, we would run into them along the sunny side of the lake as early as April. There were many occasions where the wind would came out of nowhere. We used to sit out the wind or hug the shore line slowly to make it back. We decided it was not worth putting ourselves into that situation, and would walk the creek and fish the shoreline around the lake if we could grt permission. We would catch browns at night with a slip float and glow jig tipped with roe. Rainbows with power bait. We used to throw a lot of spoons (krocodile) and get the aggressive trout. Bass when the water would warm up in the late spring along the edges. We would catch the occasional crappie and catfish also. Carp fishing was popular with corn near the launch at the outlet wih some fishermen.  Good memories!!
fear no fish!!

Here's me sailing Rock Lake last year in a sailboat I built. Definately windy (20mph gusts) but it was a lot of fun. To my surprise I wasn't the only sailboat out there.

I tried to upload the video but the site won't let me (mp4 format), so here's my youtube link instead:

Article states browns to 7 pounds but I saw a picture of a 14 pound female that looked like a legit 14. Throw large dark brown or green rooster tails at the bank or big swim baits.
Be careful and watch the wind,
Mike

9 pound 13 oz brown caught last weekend. I need to start fishing this lake in spite of all the negative press it gets. Check Washingtonlakes fishing reports to see picture.

I was there when they got back to the launch, word spread fast to all us shore fishermen! Beautiful fish, everyone seemed to be having pretty good success there as well

I used to fish there quite a bit.  F&G surveyed people one summer thinking about putting walleye in there.  I always liked the sketchy launch because it keeps the crowds off of the lake.  There is a nice little ledge on the south side of the lake below the railroad riprap that consistently holds fish if you troll along it a few times you can figure it out and catch fish that suspend off of it.  the far end of the lake has an inlet that sometimes holds rainbows.  People may be buzzing down the lake to fish for rainbows or to reach the state land near the end.  Like jrebel said make good decisions and you will be fine.
