Boat Mechanic (near Issaquah/North Bend)
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:15:46 AM »
Does anyone know or can refer someone to do basic boat repair/maintenance?  I want to have my Yamaha motors (90HP and 8HP) gone through before fishing season.

I know I wouldn't take it too, EVER!  CJ Marine out of Des Moines.  Two separate times oil basic stuff (oil) changes things were improperly done, not enough, too much, cap left off.  Third time (My fault for going back :bash:) for something else and I honestly and did other dealers, believe they were directly related to my carb on my T-8 - jets being messed with.  Indicated by slipped screwdriver marks on the jet nozzle itself, leading to a full replacement of the carb as the jets couldn't be removed by a quality shop (Three Rivers).  They do not come that way from the factory that is for sure and nobody else ever touched it when I took it in for a tune up due to carb acting up...  So Three Rivers gets my vote for Yamaha.

The best shop IMO, for Honda anyhow, is King Salmon Marine in Tacoma.  The highest master level Honda tech on this side of the country.  The went to bat for me when my big motor needed full short block replacement even though it was out of warranty by two years.  And they got it done without a dime from me, except labor, saved 7K!!!!!! Excellent customer service!

Thanks guy!

I reached out to a few of them and thought I would share the info just in case someone else needs it.  There is quite a discrepency in prices so I would suggest calling around when looking for work done on your boat.

Coho, I didn't call the place in Tacoma.  A bit too far for me.

Full-tune up (filters, oils, plugs, tune carbs, etc. and a comprehensive review of lights, bilge pump, steering cable and trailer) They also have computers to hook the newer motors up and run full diagnostics.

3 Rivers Marine (Woodinville)

90HP   $365
8HP     $225

Auburn Sports & Marine

90HP  $550 + $99 fee
8HP    $225

I-90 Marine (Issaquah)

90HP   $250
8HP     $187

A little disclaimer on the Issaquah location.  I don't know if it's as encompassing as the other two.  It was the first one I called and I didn't ask about all the other details.  He just quoted me those prices for a basic "tune up"

Call Yamaha and ask them who the Master Tech work for...    Stay away from those that do not have a Master Tech working at the shop, even if the shop claims it ....  (Just my learning experience anyhow)...  Too much electronics and computer stuff now days for the back yard small engine guy to keep up with...  One thing to think about is space -Auburn is seriously tight for space and your boat gets left outside with no visible contact from the shop, no cameras either.  Three Rivers the boat is kept in their shop area behind gates and only one way in and one way out - so you do not have to strip it of gear and stuff...
