Another Cougar attack....
« on: March 07, 2013, 07:08:38 PM »
I got this email tonight from a lady who is on my waiting list for one of our rat terrier puppies this spring.

I am on your puppy list I wanted you to know my rattie saved my life last night we were in our yard after feeding my bunnies went around the corner to go inside and a cougar was on my front porch my pebbles went for it and the cougar killed her she saved my life the police tracked it last night and fish and wild life were here all day with those Russian tracking dogs the paper is writing a big article on her;(
She was so brave Iam just overcome with grief
She was my baby , snuggle buddy the one bright light in my day.

I am not sure of her location, she has a 509 area code.  Anyone seen this on the news?

The wife. :hello:

Sounds like the one.  The lady emailed me back and said they suspected it was a female with kittens.  Weird cuz she said she was outside feeding rabbits not letting the dog out to go potty.  But we know how media can twist a story.   :dunno:

This is a result of over harvest by hunters, likely a juvenile that was forced into a urban area.

Last Friday I woke up to 1 set of adult cougar tracks and 2 sets of smaller cougar tracks in my backyard. Definitely have some cats roaming around Kittitas county!

The use of hounds greatly increases the chances of killing one though, like I said earlier the problem with these cougars entering urban areas is "overharvest" not under harvest. ;)

i would like to see some of your stats on the over harvest of wa. cougars.never heard of this, and am interested in seeing some stats.
I think it's from some hugger in WDFW that claims that hunters shoot too many cougars, especially big toms, and the cats lose their 'father figures' so they begin to misbehave and cause a ruckus in town.

I take it you have no idea how or why WDFW came up with their cougar plan.   http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,106200.msg1385948.html#msg1385948

This should chap your ass. :chuckle:

Oh yeah, my "over harvest" comment was in jest. ;)

this study and the game dept. make me sick! the quota a horrible idea. the cougar population is growing out of control because hunters without the use of hounds cannot harvest enough as it is!

Yeah, but according to the study and expert, the reason there are so many is because they have been over harvested. According to him they will only breed until the natural balance of the population is in line, then they will stop breeding or producing as many kittens, maintaining the natural balance..........lmao
