Got my permit in the mail today. Good news: Looks like season extension to June 15 is effective this year.
Sweet   Now I have to re-think my plans.

If you wait to long and the later in the sesson it gets the greater the chance the hide will be rubbed.

I went out to check my cameras today, and got the sheet scared out of me.
I had just got off my mtn bike, and was walking down an old grass covered logging road. When I came around a corner there was a doe standing in the middle of the road about 75ft away. She was just standing there as I kept walking closer. I expected her to take off at any moment, but she just stood her ground. When I was about 25ft from her I herd a fawn start bleating in the brush to my left. I took a couple feet closer to the side of the road, and noticed the ground all tore up, and a small clump of deer hair. I bent over to pick up the hair, and at that time something came crashing through the brush towards me. I stood up quick to see a 200lb+ bear comming right at me  . I Started yelling at him, and through my hands up. He stopped about 10ft from me, and turned around went back toward the fawn that was bleating non stop during all this. I jumped up on a stump to try and see him. He kept chattering at me and would stand on back 2 feet to look at me at about 30ft in the salmon berry brush.
It was pretty clear that he wasn't going to leave his fawn, and I really didn't need to check that camera, so I backed out of there very carefully.
I have been thinking about getting a hand gun for awhile. Think i'm gonna actually do that.    This happened last may/june  :) This story was posted in different thread last year

That's pretty intense.

Glad you wrote the last sentence as it seemed way too early for fawns to be dropping.   :chuckle:

Yeah buddy, thats going to help out you permit holders a ton.  Now your going to get 4 weeks of good hunting instead of 2.  I am excited to see what comes out of this unit this spring.

Damn! I wish I would have gotten 2 extra weeks last year. Loki, I would take the last 2 weeks in May off if I were you. It looks like spring is a lot earlier this year than last. I took my first hike last week, didn't see anything but will keep updating what I do see on here. I'm really excited and I don't even have a tag.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

Anybody go out scouting today? I found a small set of bear tracks, and a little later spooked a bear..........we spooked each other :chuckle:

I have been out scouting quite a bit in the last week. I have not found any fresh tree damage, or crap yet. I have found 2 different sets of fresh tracks though. Both sets were near swampy areas. I've also scared up two bears. First one was in one of the spots I found the tracks, and the other was at about 2000ft on a rock slide.
I figured I would see alot more sign by now. This is first time I've spring bear hunted.  I found this old cedar tree yesturday. The hole in the tree is a bees nest. My camera sucks, but I could see where the bears climbed up and were tearing into the nest. There were bees flying around the hole also so the nest is still active.

Been seeing quite a few stumps that have been recently torn a part.

If anyone is hunting the Monroe unit around lake.Stevens gets one down and needs help packing or tracking I would love to help out.  IM very familiar with the lake rosinger area, and would love to be in on a successful bear hunt.
Pm me for my number if you want help.

Is there an area by Lake Stevens or all by Monroe? Never seen a map yet so no idea
