Barrel Threading
«
on:
March 11, 2013, 05:14:10 PM »
Hey Guys, Looking for some leads on who could thread some of my barrels. Looking for a professional that does it as
I need about 6 Shilen match barrels threaded. Anybody that could throw a few names my way would be appreciated.
I did find a guy near Lewiston that does quite a few a week but hoping I could find someone a little closer.
Thanks

Are you threading for a brake, or headspacing?

Does your Moses lake store do this as well?
What is the average price on threading a barrel?

The Moses lake store does not thread barrels their but they can send your gun down to me at the Wenatchee store to have it done then we can ship it back to the Moses lake store for you to pick up. The price for barrel threading is $120 and if you want a thread protector the cost is right around $140 depending on what style you choose. We center the barrels of the bore using dial indicators and also recrown the barrel after threading.

R Bros does them as well. Whoever you have do the work, make sure they do it correctly so it doesn't open up your muzzle bore diameter. Have seen some messes lately with threading jobs.

How would someone fudge it so bad they opened up the bore diameter? running it between centers?

Getting greedy with how much material per pass they are taking off is typically the most common. There are a few other ways, but that is the most common. You would be surprised. Threading between centers is still a way alot of benchrest smiths do it and it works well. Not my preferred method by any means, but it works for them.

I am with ya rbros, why spend the money on all the indicators and bases to not use em'....centers work fine, just like bias ply tires worked fine, but technology favored us. Scope out nate dagleys gift to smiths, the tru bore alignment system.
