North Puget Sound Area Pheasant Hunters,
We are conducting a survey of hunters from North Puget Sound who use our pheasant release sites in Region 4.  The purpose of the survey is to gather information that we hope will help us understand your level of satisfaction with the various release sites in the area, evaluate one site (Bow Hill Road) that was new last year, and guide future WDFW efforts to locate new release sites in the area.

Interesting survey. I have a friend that hunted at bow hill and releases them in differnt places  around the counties. His one comment was how much brush was left after the last logging operation and the slash makes it very hard to hunt. He kinda thought it felt more like grouse hunting for Phesant...
I think its good they are trying to reduce the conflict between  duck hunters and phesant hunters, but its too bad that the other areas don't get planted as much.

I just did the survey but since I didn't hunt Bow Hill it was a bit useless.  It seems to be worded as if they want to find out the commitment level from folks using BH before trying to get into it with the neighbors that expressed concern.  I did mark the ebey prairie site as super poor because of the granolas taking down the F&W signs and replacing them with No Hunting made me feel real welcome on public ground.

I think they are seeking any input on the Bow Hill site by anyone who hunted it since the lease expires in 2016. The land owner is going to log most of it now which may help the habitat for pheasants. They are also seeking volunteers to help make it more suitable after it's logged. They are also seeking input on additional or alternative sites if or when the Bow Hill site fails. Lot of complaints from neighboring property owners i guess. Never hunted it myself but it sounds like it may have potential if it weren't for all the anti-hunting neighbor complaints.

I would think that some shovel work to pile and burn some of the slash would go a long way to making it more "huntable".

Shovel work as in anyone with a track hoe and cat. Not sure if anyone would want to donate their time when the future of the site is so skeptical tho.

My father in law hunts in that area and loves it, says too easy is his only complaint. Must be nice to be retired

Well I be they will shovel log the new  cut, so doing a little clean up wouldn't be as bad. I also don't think you would need to do the whole thing, just some strips. I think your right, the hours on a machine may be harder to get, especially with the future in doubt.

I wish they would do a separate survey for each release site, that way improvements could be made case by case.

If you are a bird hunter in skagit or hunt skagit areas, we need to put pressure on them to utilize the Debay swan area for upland. They own it and lease it  to a farmer during the summer. The darn swans do not use it and dont need it because they are all over private protected grounds, from bellingham to seattle.

They will give you crap about it was bought with special money. But in this day and age they need to maximize the use of all their lands. It makes no sense to keep it Swans only when it is perfect for upland.

And yes I have been to every local meeting in Mount Vernon on this issue. They are just blowing smoke up our skirts. They could use debay if they wanted too.
If only for the early part of the season.

They are sitting in the same office at Mill Creek and the Waterfowl guy and Upland guy cannot walk down the hall and talk.  Exchange a little money. Baloney!!!!!!
