fishing hawaii ?

I am heading to hawaii and going to stay on Kauai and was wondering if anyone had fished there.  I dont want to charter a boat.  I want fish from the shore or stream fish there any info on where to fish and what to use.  Oh ya i will going mid june. 
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They have bass inland.  And you can catch stuff from shore, especially near rockpiles, might catch barracudas and stuff.  They swim right up to the shore.

Forget the rods and go spear fishing. My Dad does some shore fishing on the big island. He does ok but is getting into more spear fishing. He does lobster while he spear fishes too.

I'm not sure the gear he uses but its a gigantic spinner setup. He looks for deep water along rocky/cliff shore lines. He said the charters aren't worth it for him.

I went spear fishing when I lived there and that's how I cured my hunting cravings.  Very rewarding, but you'll want someone experienced to go with.  One time someone smashed in our window and stole everything in the car, then racked up a couple thousand dollars on my buddies credit card before we even made it back to notice it happened.  A box jellyfish got me another time and put me in the ER....but I was back out there the next week, definitely a blast!
