bent frame? Or crooked bed?
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:29:46 AM »
Hey all, I was installing my custom headrack and notices that there is a larger gap on the right side of my truck between the bed and the cab than there is on the right.  I immediately thought bent frame, but the body lines match up pretty well vertically, she drives strait and doesn't wear unevenly on the tires.  What do you think?  did my bed mounted just loosen up and the box needs to be realigned, or is it a bent frame.  Here are a few pictures with a quarter for size reference.

Head rack if you wanted to see it. Made it all myself!

Bed is probably just off on the frame

 :yeah:
There's a lot of slop on most pick up beds.  Should be 8 bolts if you feel like straightening it out.

Well Smossy i think you're right.  Since its pretty much junk ill sell it to ya for 100 bucks.  (just the cost of the materials when I made the headrack).  Sound good?  :chuckle:

Just kidding, I love the truck, that's why I was panicking about the frame haha.  Ill have to loosen those bolts and try to align the bed.

Look strait down at both sides of your rear bumper where the bumper pad goes slightly under the tailgate. Between the pad and the part of your box side that the tailgate hinges bolt to, you should be able to stick your finger in the gap and compare it to the other side. If its tighter on the right and wider on the left, its your bed that is off. Which means that cool rack will have to come off, take the bedliner out cause there is 6 bolts holding your bed down from the top. Your gunna need a T55 torx bit and a 1/2" impact with some guts to get them off. If they are frozen heat up 1 corner of the nuts on your frame, and if that doesn't work you have to grind the heads off and replace them and the nuts (Ford calls them 1 time use bolts). If the gaps are even then you have a side-sway or diamond frame condition. A few hours on the frame machine and your golden. Or you could just drive it the way it is, lots cheaper.
When your hunting, you're living. Everything else is just waiting.
