2007 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 5.7L HEMI V8
« on: March 29, 2013, 01:05:14 PM »
Anybody have or have had this truck or similar? What did you like, what didn't you like? What kind of mileage did you get etc? I have only owned Chevy and Toyota so I don't know much about them, yet.

A buddy has a 2500 with the hemi. Good power, pretty good ride, gets 17-18 Avg but he is heavy footed as well. They have kind of a known issue breaking rocker arms but I have only seen 1 at the shop for that. It had over 100k on it. Other than that I have never heard alot negative about them.

2007 Megacab. Been a good truck so far. It's a heavy truck and pretty good power with the HEMI. Get about 11-14 MPG. Think readings are off a little with the big tires on it.

I would be happy if I could get 16-18 mpg. I am known as grandpa by friends and family because I always drive the speed limit so being a lead foot is not an issue. My commute to work is 9 miles round trip so that will help as well!

Its still Dodge.   :chuckle:

Since I have no experience with Dodge I can't argue either way.  :dunno:

I don't think you'll see 18mpg. 13-14 average I think is where you'll be I bet unless you're on the freeway a lot.
Exhaust manifold bolts break causing exhaust leaks.
Tune ups are expensive. 16 spark plugs and 8 plug wires that cost $20 each at the dealer.
Other than that, not bad and not a lot of problems.
Other than that, the last time you brought up a truck purchase you said you wanted a 4 door. It is a 4 door but it's still got a little tiny back seat.  As in your buddies aren't going to be happy sitting back there unless it's a mega-cab like Craig's.

those are good points. I haven't been in one so I didn't know of the size. The place I usually get my vehicles from hasn't really had a truck in lately that fits what I am looking for and this one was close.

I have an 08 ram 1500. City I'm avg about 13-14 and highway avg 17-19. Towing a 21ft north river gets me about 10-12 depending in where I'm going. The last few days I've been driving a buddies 06 3500 cummins and that thing is avg 20mpg!!! If I didn't have a lifetime power train I'd be finding one of those in a heart beat.

We ran an 05 quad cab half ton hemi at work for 3 years. 60k. No problems at all.  14 to 16 mpg.  Towed light 3500lb trailer most the time.  Great truck.  Back seat barely larger then chev ford ext. cabs.  This truck was much better then the f-150 and 01 and 03 chevs we had.  Better power and no mech. failures.  4.8 chev got 16-18mpg.
MAGA!  Again..

We bought our son an 08 they had huge rebates when we bought it and with the lifetime powertrain warr. it was hard to pass. It's a short bed 4dr 4x4 and it gets 17 plus driving to the cabin all in all it's been a very good truck so far with 89K miles on it.

A good point to bring up is that rams with the hemis 2006 and newer have the deactivating cylinders were it drops 2 cylinders when cruzing. Helps the gas gauge a lot
