Tick question

So if your dog has ticks but you didn't see them, and they burrow.. Will tick shampoo kill them while they are burrowed? Or do I have to give my dog a bunch of baths to be sure?

I just pull them out with tweezers. Just make sure you get the head.

I do the same.  Steady pressure, and it comes off with a small piece of hide attached.

put a big glob of vaseline on the tick. the vaseline will make the tick back out a little because it won't be able to breath and it will be much easier to remove with little chance of leaving the head behind to abscess.

If you're not already using it, Frontline Plus is a worthwhile investment.

If you take your dog East, you will eventually encounter ticks. Frontline is likely the manufacturer of the Kirkland brand Costco carries. Just an educated guess.

Costco's kirkland brand preventative is not the same chemical mix. It's more like Bio Spot's preventative (may well be Bio Spot repackaged???).

Costco does sell Frontline Plus for a decent price however.

For a cheaper generic alternative to Frontline, you can try Fiproguard.

Frontline Plus is amazing stuff. Once the ticks start coming out, I put a dose on my labs, and it seems within hours the ticks are crawling off the dogs. Definitely worth the money. I've tried other brands, but nothing seems to work as well to keep them off, and kill them, as well as the Frontline.

Yep, Costco Flea and Tick is garbage...Treated Chukar with it recently and he came home with more than 3 dozen ticks, from an excursion to EWA on Sunday the 14th. Already purchased Frontline and have it ready for next treatment.

You might want to look into Lymes desease vaccine for your dog also.  My hunting partners dog ended up with Lymes desease.  My BinL has his dogs vaccinated.  Both my BinL and sister have had Lymes in northern WI.  I used Frontline in WI two years ago and the ticks burrowed in but died.  We were finding ticks in out truck and clothes for a month after the trip but the grouse and woodcock were fun.

The Costco preventative and Frontline do not keep ticks off. It kills them and prevents them from breeding. Your dog can still come out of tick country with them on them.

Ivermec do anything to keep them at bay like the other bugs that jump on and hitch a ride? That's the cheapest your going to get and it kills all but tapeworms.
