So finally getting to a story. Opening day started with 1 1/2 inches of snow and really hot birds in the trees. We at there set up for an hour after daylight when we decided to back out and drop down and get below the jakes that were closest to us and get at the toms level. Right when we started to make the move it went silent so we knew they hit the ground. My buddy set up facing the birds coming at us. They ended up coming in above us, when the tom showed up Jeff got spotted but couldn't see his beard. Not wanting to shot a jake let him walk. Between snow, wind, rain, sleet, and hail the day was pretty much done even thou we stayed out til seven that night.
Day two found us set up on a tom near the same spot as the morning before. After a little soft coaxing he was strutting above us again just out of sight. A few minutes later he peeked over the hill at jeff, first tom down! We snapped pics and took care of the bird, then headed after a bird for me. Four hours of hiking later with no gobbles found us near where jeff killed his bird. He thought he heard a gobble down the creek. He did and it was running and gobbling at us within one minute he met a load of 3 1/2" magnum blend at 16 yards. So far pretty happy with the beginning of the season.

Well I was finally able to make it out after a two week hiatus from the woods. We got down late last night just in time to hear the birds in the trees, and came up with a game plan for the morning. My buddy that had never shot a turkey was up first the hens hit the ground first and after about fifteen minutes met up with each other on front of us and started to fight. This got the tom even more fired up and he started coming faster. At forty yards I cut at him and he dumped him. It had a 9 1/2 " beard and 1 1/8" spurs.
So we headed after the other birds about an hour later after a few different setups we were in between three toms we got to the knob and I called, a bird answered right below us. I setup quick and within five
minutes he popped his head up once I was sure it was a tom I shot.
The funny thing is my bird has a full fan 8 16th/2

Here is my buddies bird mounted with the van dykes deluxe kit. Never used them but they look pretty good. Good luck to everybody the rest of the season.
