I've had old laying hens grow spurs and a comb and start crowing.  It certainyl could be a hormonal thing.  I'd imagine turkeys could easily be the same

come to think about it, I had a female pheasant start growing male plummage as well......

Saw one out here strut at a hen decoy as she led the gobbler in, missed him though with my bow.

Seen hens in the tree strutting too! And had a hen on a next one day, near where I set up, each day she got off the nest, she would make a broken gobble like a jake. Not sure what she was doing. Only thing I could think of, was trying to keep the other toms in the area from coming around and breaking up her nest.??
