2007 Tundra double cab TRD Off Road

I have found yet another truck in my search and I am pretty sure I narrowed it down to either this one or the Tacoma double cab TRD sport. Any thoughts on the Tundra? I love everything about it except the gas mileage.

Loved my 06 Tundra. Better ride than my Tacomas. Drove it for 4 years. Put 50000 miles on it and sold it for $400 more than I paid for it. I would take a Tundra over a Tacoma any day and I loved my Tacomas.

Room and economy is the debate. Both are generally very dependable.

I love my Tacoma dbl cab. It has a short bed and at times I wish I had more room but for most hunting trips it's fine. I went with it due to off-road capabilities, gas mileage, and past history with Tacomas. It actually tows a lot better than I anticipated, it'll tow a lot more than it will be able to stop I'm sure.

Up until December I had an 05 Tundra Double Cab Limited, non TRD.  It was awesome.  It needed some (hunting related) body work and quite a bit of other neglected maintenance, so I traded it in at 110K for a Tacoma TRD Offroad Double Cab.  Also a great rig.  The newer Tundra's are too big for my taste, and their gas mileage is crap.  But those older style Tundra's are not much bigger than the present Tacoma's and gas mileage is pretty similar. My Tundra had a better ride (maybe because the Tacoma is the Offroad?) and better power.  If they made that same sized Tundra still, I would rather have a new one of those than the new Tacoma.  Translation - that 07 Tundra Double Cab should be awesome.

Well stated.  I've owned a 2009 Double Cab Tacoma and now own a 2012 Crewmax Tundra.  Loved my Tacoma but ultimately wanted more room.  As others have said the Tundra rides better than the Tacoma, but the Tacoma was a little more fun to drive. 

I don't have a single complaint about my Tundra besides gas mileage.  With stock tires it was pretty good, I was averaging about 18mpg, my Tacoma with BFG AT's was about 18-19mpg.  Initially I thought not too bad, but after I put some BFG AT's on my Tundra I've been getting about 15mpg...  I have the smaller 4.6 V8.

I wish I could have kept my Tacoma, but having owned both I'd choose the Tundra.  Of course, if you don't need the extra room and towing capacity the Tacoma would be perfect!

I have a 09 tundra crewmax and love it if we did not need the extra room for a car seat I probably would have the dbl cab. Personally I like the more room of the tundra than the Tacomas.  The tundras are a big vehicle and in the woods they some times are a pain to get around but I have not had a problem.  I have a 2" leveling kit with larger tires and just got 16mpg going from the east side to west with the cruise set at 74mph.  That sucks but is worth it for the room.

I have had two older body Tundra's and they averaged 17-18 miles per gallon for me. In similar year model Tacoma's, you only get about 2 miles per gallon better. I don't think that's worth it to give up all the extra bed space, power, and cargo capacity of the Tundra.  Not sure how the newer model Tacoma v Tundra mpg difference compares.

I love the look of the newer Tundra but as mentioned it is a bit more of a boat. Plus, when you spend more money on one, you'll be afraid to take it out and have fun with it. I hit a small tree stump with my tundra and put a little tend in the bumper and I don't even care. I call it a war scar

Completely agree.  I have nice striping on mine and a couple love scrapes but nothing a little detailing wouldn't fix.  To me I have a truck to use and that is what I use it for.  I just am glad the wife has not been with me on a couple of the roads I have been on. Aren't the newer tacomas and tundras dang near the same price?

I have an 08 Crewmax 5.7l and love it! The MPG is running 15-16 with larger than stock tires and with stock I was getting 18. I think the 08 Tacoma was getting just slightly better. It would basically come down to room and power in my book plus I bought mine new and got it cheaper than a comparably equipped Tacoma (Go Figure).

Have the 07 Tundra with 4.7 and the TRD package. Currently have 176,00 miles on it. Love it. It's my hunting rig and the extra room can't be beat.

They're both expensive as all get out. Plus the new Tacoma's are supposed to be huge, too. Heck, they might be as big a truck as my "old" Tundra. If you want to spend $40,000 on a hunting truck, knock yourself out.

got a 08 crewmax, and after owning dodges, chevs and fords, I have been on Tundras since 2005, owned a 1gen and now the crewmax.  There is more to life then mileage, and when me and 4 guys my size 6-3 and 260+ hit the eastside for hunting it cannot be beat

I have a '13 Taco and love it. Roomy, while not as big as a full size it is a lot bigger than the older Tacomas, quiet, comfy, good power. Loaded, got it for $31k ($3500 off).

2007 "better than average" (only low catagory is "drive train", 2008 went down to Average, 09 up to better and drive train up to average, 2010 same, 2011 same and drive train up to better, 2012 Best rated Tundra every catagory is Best!! I will be looking at them next time I truck shop.

thanks for the responses guys. I looked at the Tacoma this weekend when we were down in Bend and it was pretty darn nice. I just wish I could look at the Tundra easier but it is in Portland.

Toyota trucks in general have never been known for fuel economy.
Ive had  an '89, '97, '01, and a'05 Tacoma and they were all V6s and all got poor mileage. Usually 17-18 around town if i recall.

Im not sure how big of a guy you are but if saving a few $$ on fuel isnt a major concern, Id go with the Tundra hands down.
Theyre both reliable and have the best resale value of any truck on the market.
Either one is a good choice.

If they made a 1 ton with a diesel motor Id own it.

I am 6'1" and fuel economy is nice but not a deal breaker. My commute is 9 miles road trip to work. I drive a Tahoe right now that gets about 17 city 19-20 freeway and it sounds like I could get close to that with the Tundra. I would be happy with that!

love my '05 tundra double cab!  sold my pontiac grand prix and '72 chev 4wd longbox for it!     plenty of power, plenty of room (wife, 2 kids, and a dog), hunted in it last year (3 adults and gear - plenty of room).  mileage sucks with 285/75 R17's, but oh well... it's just money, right!?  bought it last summer with 65,000 miles on it... AN '05!
