My little hunting hole
« on: April 15, 2013, 12:20:57 AM »
I live out in Newman Lake out near the stateline of Idaho. My neighbor owns 20 acres and has given me permission to bow hunt. I walked his property several times and noticed plenty of elk sign. I went up and put a couple salt licks and a deer molasses block and a game cam. After a week I went and changed my card and found 10-15 elk had visited the salt 2 nights in that week. I just started bow hunting 3 years ago and it is my new obsession. I can not wait for elk season, I guess chasing turkeys will have to do for now.

Sounds nice, good luck chasing those elk this fall, and make sure to post pics for us.

Remember just because you see them on cam doesn't mean you will see them during the hunting season

That is a great area and I know that herd sticks around there for most of the season.  The only problem is you will need to buy more feed than everyone else in that area because I am pretty sure everyone does that same thing.  Good luck and with 20acres you will have a good chance just make sure to get a good shot because you don't want them running onto other private property in that area because you may not be able to get access to it.

Make sure you keep updating the feed source. 20 acres isnt much, elk get bored and will feed through 20acres in an hour. Also get good with your bow, if you stick one and it runs it will be off the property in 1 minute.

Otherwise good luck.

Yes we have been putting in for our big bull in Goose Prairie and Bethel. Thinking about switching Bethel to Little Naches. My hunting buddy grew up in Sunnyside and hunted that area for years. If we don't draw we have hunted the 49 degree north area I also have 150 acres of private land with permission to hunt there as well I need to get up there this weekend and get a mineral site and camera up as well. I'm hoping this area in Newman Lake will give us a chance in late season if we need it. That herd starts to come down here once the snow starts flying in the hills.  Thanks everyone for great info on this site.
