Kazekurt and I were out deer hunting and saw 6 coyotes in two days.  I stalked to about 70 to a bedded coyote but he caught me moving.  This was a couple days ago.  They were out

I went to Republic to get our ATVs licensed this morning. Some of the guys said they had -17 at their houses....

The guy that did the inspecting said he saw 1 coyote near the Riverside/Pine Creek cutoff road.

Food = calories , Calories = heat. No brainer . BUT when its real cold they will lay up to conserve calories, They are hungry BUT not stupid . Over the years i have found its best to wait till later in the morning to begin calling , Prey dont move when its bitter cold and they know it . Have breakfast and a couple cups of hot Joe , Relax a lil and then get after it . If its cold AND windy , Stay home .

saw three in two stands today. first stand 800 yards out, new hunting partner lights up a cig  :yike:  :bash:(first time hunting with him, we'll see how the next one goes to see if there is another), after a good reeming off to stand two. Double winded us and off to the races, no good shot op so let them walk. Figured better not to educate them further.

Cold = good, Wind = bad.

I have found yotes hate wind and will stay in the den if it's much more than a breeze.
For sure they need calories to produce heat, but the trade off in calories with bad wind chill negates the advantage.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.
