What is a good utilitarian carry gun?
« on: April 18, 2013, 12:39:06 PM »
I have come to realize i appreciate and respect my current carry guns too much and decided i want a good functional utilitarian sidearm. One i can get wet or dirty, that i don't mind carrying with me on hikes, wood cutting etc. That if it gets scratched i don't care. A leatherman carry gun of sorts.
Any ideas?
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

One word comes to mind: Revolver

Second thing that comes to mind is a Glock. Any Glock that fits your grip and feels decent in the hand.

Already starting to hate this thread. All of a sudden I feel that the XD should stay home and I must have another pistol.

p.s. This could be yet another epic thread. Just warning you.

I almost wonder if you started it on purpose.

Do you plan to carry you and your utilitarian carry gun in a Ford, Dodge or Chevy truck?

If you want a cheap but solid gun, take a look at the Ruger P Series...solid pistols  :twocents:

Glock pistol or Ruger stainless revolver. It's not that they are not worthy of care; they are.  But they are inexpensive, reliable, and rugged.

$139 Hipoint 45. Just as ugly and reliable as a Glock at 1/3 the price.  :IBCOOL:

I hope not, only looking for what other people may have or carry for this exact purpose. I am not brand specific for this application as i may be for others.
I did not ask what brand or caliber is a better utilitarian, just what is a good one...
Not starting anything to start anything...
Yes i do plan to carry myself and this gun in a Ford a Nissan and a Chevy, my dads Dodge dakota when i am with him and even in H20's pink FJ if i ever ride shotgun.... :chuckle:
I also plan to carry it when i cut wood with my Stihl or even the Husky i also have...
I would of carried it on my person when riding my Giant brand mnt bike but someone thought they needed my bike more than me a borrowed it,,,i am thinking they won't bring it back.
A revolver yep, or even a glock as i could wash that thing in a creek if needed...

I'll let your ride shotgun anytime....Glock and all. My only issue with Glock is I've rarely held one that felt right or shot them well. If I'm looking for camping chopping wood driving around all around abuse it and use it gun I'd strongly look at Glocks. Lots of calibers, plenty of models, and some decent ones right up at Cabales that already have wear marks on 'em.

SA .45 XD. As utilitarian as it is pretty. After the first 250 rounds, I've never had a jam. And, when you have rolls like me, it conceals really nicely!  :yike: :yike:
