Can't find my ideal sling setup AR15
« on: April 20, 2013, 06:38:15 PM »
This is the gun

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sig-Sauer-M400-Enhanced-Carbine-ODG-with-Rifle-Bag/21677318

What I am looking for is a quick detach button to mount a sling on, similar to this:

Except a quick detach button on the left side and maybe a small picitany rail on the reverse side for flash light or laser designator (not a deal breaker)

anyone know of a manufacturer?

I'll take a picture of my setup when I get home, but are you looking for a single point, two point or three point?  I have a single point setup and a three point setup.  My single point is on a Magpul ASAP with the ring removed.  For my three point I have 2 flush cups for QD mounts.  On is on the left rail, and the other is on my stock.

You could get a MOE rail for that forend and put a sling attachment of some type on it, but I don't remember the MOE stock having any attachment options other than the 1.5" slot.  I do know that magpul makes QD's that will attach with a screw, but if there isn't a hole in the MOE stock that wouldn't work either.  Basically I wanted a three point for throw on and go, and a single point for when I wear a LBV, where I have a sling attached to the rear MOLLE that comes over the shoulder and attaches to the rifle.

Really I would borrow or cheaply buy stuff until you find out what you like and then get something like that in a better setup...But unless you have really tried all the options out there and know what really works well for you asking on a forum is going to yeild 1000 different opinions... Personally I got the ability to mess with different setup's when I was in the military and find out what worked for me... Now those are the only two options that I use...

I had some tied on slings, just messing around.

the v-tac style slings would suit me well, not sure if I want a bungee sling though.

I was out shooting p-dogs and riding around on an atv - it was a PIA without a good sling.

Also I really like to use a sling to shoot, felt naked without a sling to steady up with.

Check out Tab Gear. They just came out with a fast tex buckle sling that is money.
I ran it on a MK-20 for 2 weeks, and loved it. Have ran it on duty weapon  for about 5 months and love it. allows for easy offhand shooting, and is made to be use in a "sling supported" position.

Worth the 60 bones IMHO.

They are pretty legit.
Think its a 2 inch webbing, so she is comfy. There is 2 fast tex buckles, and located in such a manner you could sling you rifle diagonal across you back over a pack and just hit the buckle instead of fussing with pulling it all over your head.

The sling has a bicep pocket (you literally dip your arm in-between the two pieces of webbing, and its stellar in a kneeling supported position).

We were hitting 10" steel plates at 200 standing and kneeling with the slings as a support.  Cannot say enough good. And that MK-20 is every bit of 15-17# with the can on her, so that should say something...

Get ahold of Rifles Only. They are a Ma' and Pa' company out of Texas they sell them for $55 i believe. Jacob (the owner) got in cohorts with TAB and they did a TON of testing for a "precision" sling and came up with the results...

Great stuff.

IWC has what I need!

limited rotation too

That's along the lines of what I run... But I just bought one that mounts to my picatinny rail for like $10... Hell you could probably get a MOE picatinny rail and QD for less than the 25 they are charging... But then again I have never been someone who really cares how my fighting rifles look... And those installed QD mounts look pretty nicely done...

I've tried that route, but my hand guard is cramped as it is.  I have some short pictanny rails already I've had bolted on but hated it on the grip and took them off right away.

I prefer the Vtac set up. Its the most versatile sling on the market.
Get ahold of Kyle Lamb's book "Green Eyes and Black Rifles" and it really goes into detail on how to really use a sling.

Little late on this thread, but when I was searching for AR sling threads this came up.

I have been looking for a two point sling with HK hooks and the Tab Gear sling is looking very tempting.
