Ellensburg turkeys
« on: April 22, 2013, 08:19:46 PM »
Hunted for three days around ellensburg and teanaway but the teanaway was crazy with so many people and no birds talking. Last morning got in close to a bird that was silent saw a beard and shot ended up getting a bearded hen with a 6in beard thought it was a jake at first until i walked up to it so ended the season a little disappointed.

If your disappointed, that's in your own mind. You hunted an area that gets pounded heavily, and got your bird. Besides, how many shoot a bearded hen?  Nice j :tup:ob!

Many consider a bearded hen a trophy, and it beats coming home with an empty cooler.

Congrats ....

Is that unit always that busy?  Hunted early archery Elk there last year and saw quite a bit of sign and did see some turkeys.  Does it calm down after the first week because I was thinking that might be a good place to hit in the coming weeks, but if it's a zoo I'll keep looking.

The bird to hunter ratio is ridiculous. I live there and I won't hunt the Teanaway.  You will get less pressure as the season goes on but the birds are so shy its tough.

I have dropped 3 bearded hens in the last 5 years. I don't know why, but they always show up on the last morning of the last day.... works for me.

The only part that I don't like is cleaning them and finding them full of eggs, that's makes you think.   At least I scrambled the eggs for breakfast!
