I think you nailed it, looking at it again it doesnt quite have the sculpin shape I am use to anyway. Sculpin are good eating too, just can't remember the regs on them. I don't think there are any regs for irish lords, they probably just consider them bullheads im guessing.

Close in relation to red irish lord, it says they are considered as bullheads too. Just never seen one with that bright of coloring around here. Bullheads suck a$$ when fishing.

Are those bullhead edible? I didnt think they were, We just throw them back usually. Theyre decent fighters on small gear :chuckle:
I may go hit spanaway lake today for trout, Was out there for a few hours the other day and probably seen 30-40 trout landed. Not a single one for me though :dunno: I heard there was a 30 inch 4lb rainbow brought up to. Kinda hard to believe but it was told by the boathouse owner and he usually is not one for fish tales.

lol @ Me saying German rainbow, Thinking one thing, saying another. Haha. Good eye, Goldeneye*

Red Irish Lords are pretty cool.

Next time you catch one, take a close look at the eyes.

Were you fishing anchored?  Irish lord don't usually wander far from home and are usually shallow.  We had a spot like this with Irish Lord off of Gull Rock between Depoe Bay and Newport, OR.  We would move about fifty yards north or south and we would be out of them.  Still on a good rockfish reef but out of the Irish Lord's territory.

Local aquariums were always on the lookout for some good Reds.  Having a commercial license along with our charter license we would make a few trips per year to that spot and catch eight or ten for them.  Was cool to tour the aquarium and see fish we had caught ourselves.  Very cool fish to watch through the glass.  Sold them wolf eel and rat fish too.  They make the Irish Lords look pretty normal :chuckle:

Careful with those red irish lords, they have a poisonous spine are their gills that is extrememely painful and can cause infections. Good eats though! Caught a few before.
