Way to get rid of gun control legislators

I don't know if any of you have seen what the people of Colorado are doing to the legislators that support gun control? They are subjecting them to a re-call election. This is a great way to punish them for supporting gun control and putting the rest on notice what will happen if they support gun control.

Recall of elected officials in Washington, Article I, Sections 33 & 34:

SECTION 33 RECALL OF ELECTIVE OFFICERS. Every elective public officer of the state of Washington expect [except] judges of courts of record is subject to recall and discharge by the legal voters of the state, or of the political subdivision of the state, from which he was elected whenever a petition demanding his recall, reciting that such officer has committed some act or acts of malfeasance or misfeasance while in office, or who has violated his oath of office, stating the matters complained of, signed by the percentages of the qualified electors thereof, hereinafter provided, the percentage required to be computed from the total number of votes cast for all candidates for his said office to which he was elected at the preceding election, is filed with the officer with whom a petition for nomination, or certificate for nomination, to such office must be filed under the laws of this state, and the same officer shall call a special election as provided by the general election laws of this state, and the result determined as therein provided. [AMENDMENT 8, 1911 p 504 Section 1. Approved November, 1912.]

SECTION 34 SAME. The legislature shall pass the necessary laws to carry out the provisions of section thirty-three (33) of this article, and to facilitate its operation and effect without delay: Provided, That the authority hereby conferred upon the legislature shall not be construed to grant to the legislature any exclusive power of lawmaking nor in any way limit the initiative and referendum powers reserved by the people. The percentages required shall be, state officers, other than judges, senators and representatives, city officers of cities of the first class, school district boards in cities of the first class; county officers of counties of the first, second and third classes, twenty-five per cent. Officers of all other political subdivisions, cities, towns, townships, precincts and school districts not herein mentioned, and state senators and representatives, thirty-five per cent. Colorado Senate President Faces Recall In Voter Backlash Over Gun Grab

PHOTOS.COMTwo Colorado legislators who supported the State’s trio of new gun control laws in March are now fighting to keep their seats, as residents warm to the growing nationwide push to recall lawmakers whose in-office actions don’t reflect what voters thought they were getting at election time.

State Senate President John Morse, a Democrat, is the highest-profile target of voter backlash against the gun-control legislation, which passed March 20. Recall supporters have been compiling petitions in Colorado Springs, collecting signatures at gun stores and in high-traffic public places like libraries and grocery stores.

Morse told FOX News he’s already resigned himself to the fact that the petitions are there in adequate number to force a recall vote, but he protests that he’s been targeted not only by irate Colorado residents, but also by the national gun lobby — especially the National Rifle Association.

“That’s what’s going on here. They want to take out the Senate president,” he said. In a separate CNN interview, he elaborated: “It was a grassroots effort for a little while, but when that didn’t take at all, it was clear they were getting money from outside. And I wasn’t the least bit surprised the NRA was behind it.”

Recall organizers originally targeted four State legislators, including Morse, but two of those efforts have already stalled. That, in part, is why the NRA has thrown its support behind a single campaign to hold a recall vote for a high-profile Senator like Morse.

Recall leaders don’t dispute it, saying the effort is intended, in part, to remove out-of-touch Legislators from office — but also to send a message that voters have recourse when their voices aren’t heeded.

“It’s as much about saying Colorado is angry as it is about getting one guy out,” explained Anthony Garcia, who’s organizing the Morse recall effort. “Legislators need to know when citizens are outraged that they can’t ignore the people.”

For his part, Morse is campaigning as though it’s election season, urging voters not to sign the petitions. He’s getting outside support, too, in the form of a $20,000 contribution from America Votes, a nationwide progressive group.

In the meantime, guns and ammo keep flying off Colorado gun stores’ shelves. During the fiscal quarter when the Legislature took up and passed gun control, there were more than 146,000 background checks for gun sales in the State. A year earlier, there had been only 69,000.

Who has voted for gun control? Let's start there.

Got an aggresive letter  back from Maria Cantwell & Chris Reykdal showing their support for NICS and to remove all semi auto guns from the public.   As I read their letter again it seems that the tone is to remove all firearms including those from the law abiding citizens, only exceptions are the military, & LEO's.

In the wake of the tragedy in Connecticut and the dozens of other high profile shootings, I am getting a substantial number of emails regarding the regulation of guns, mental health support, criminal sentencing and a host of other related topics.

For years I have been a much louder proponent of mental health funding than I have been for stricter gun laws.  First, the power of the 2nd Amendment in our culture (whether real or perceived) is a force that needs to be understood. In my analysis, (groups like) the NRA are loud but they have a fraction of the nation's gun owners as members.  I rarely agree with their tactics, their tone, or their policy ambitions, but let me be clear, gun ownership is a right and most people I talk with are sincerely worried about their gun rights and most of them are NOT NRA members.  In the same breath, those people, almost to a person, will say that reasonable gun limitations are already in place and more could be done.

To the matter of mental health support:  I have said for years that our vilification of "government" and the public sector, and subsequently the taxes and fees necessary to fund an effective government is literally and unnecessarily costing people their lives.  From child-welfare, to public safety, to environmental protections, to worker safety, to medical care for senior citizens and the poor, we are harming our fellow citizens with our over-the-top anti-government, anti-tax rhetoric that began in 1980 and lasts today, namely through the megaphone that is Tim Eyman and his corporate-run initiative machine.  We are paying the price now; individuals are suffering and tax payers pay higher costs in the long run because, like most ailments, prevention is much less expensive than acute treatment.

I have signed on to legislation this year that promotes more mental health funding, strengthens our ability to commit individuals for mental health evaluations, and a host of other issues that I believe are proactive instead of reactive. I would like to note that, the percentage of mentally ill individuals who commit violent crimes is very small.  In reality, those with a mental illness are more likely to be victims of a crime themselves.  I caution the generalization of mentally ill individuals as violent and the subsequent stigma that could follow.

Finally, one last paragraph on the larger issue of violence if you will permit me.  I believe in my heart that we have a uniquely American obsession with violence.  We are not alone, but we have perfected the corporatization of violence.  It comes from the far right in the form of weapons, and from the far left in movies, film, television, and video games.  Both sides profit enormously from the ever-violent American culture.  Fear sells!  It sells papers, advertising during the nightly news, movies, video games, toys, and so much more. I am a deep believer in the power of consumers to change our culture.  If we choose to turn off violence, the profiteers of violence will deliver another product that we prefer.  If we say no to children's violent games, to our nightly prime-time shows that all seem to use death as their foundational story line, we can change our culture.  If we say no to violent music that promotes the murder of police officers, girlfriends, and just about everybody else, we can change our culture.  If we choose to read a book about history, hope, or imagination instead of murder, we can change our culture.
I will not support legislation that regulates (violence in media and consumer culture) these things or denies a free people their right to engage in these things.  I'm not talking about an abusive censorship approach; I'm talking about culture change that is inductive - from the bottom up.  When American's decide we don't want violence, we will change our culture.  Free markets deliver products and services to customers based on demand.  We/I can't legislate this; it has to come from within us as a society, one person at a time.  I'm all in!

Pennsylvania Police Chief Nullifies Gun Control In His Jurisdiction

At a recent convention of The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) in St. Louis, more than 200 law enforcement officers, state lawmakers, county officials and concerned citizens gathered to discuss strategies to resist and to nullify the lawless actions of the federal government, and of many state governments, particularly in the area of gun control.
