Nice buck. That must of been a relief to see on the last day, at least you didn't settle for a dink.

My moms fiance was able to hunt the desert unit in 2010 and 2012, one from the draw (smaller buck) the other he won the mule deer raffle. He said he saw some monsters in there but had to get back to work so time was an issue.

billdo pretty sure i met you one day out there, you were the only other guy i saw hunting solo. unlike the groups of people that have never set foot in that unit and show up with 4 friends just wondering around thinking they are just going to be able to stumble up on a buck and kill it  :chuckle:
Yeah i just stayed away from the big groups of people and usually they pushed deer right to u... 2 days in a row i had the same buck at 10 yards but it was still in the first week of the hunt so i didnt shoot...

Not meaning to jump the thread, but with 18 points finally drew a Desert rifle tag. I was concerned that last year only 50% success rate in the area but still applied anyway. Also drew a cow tag the same week so time is of the essence. Any help from previous successful hunters would b greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well I got drawn for the Desert unit during muzzle season Oct. 12 thru 20th. I have hunted coyotes in the area for years, but I just never hunted deer over there. I have seen many big buck in Dec. and Jan. grouped up. I will be Scouting and Hunting coyotes a lot. Is there a area I should spend more time in? I was thinking of launching the little boat in a channel and finding a nice area to set up a salt lick and same bait also make a blind. So what's your thoughts? Anything will help. Thanks
