New 44 mag, need help...
« on: May 12, 2013, 08:59:23 PM »
Just picked up a Ruger 44 mag. Unfortunately buying rounds around here is not happening. Looking to get started reloading. I have access to a press, but need to get primers, brass, and lead. Can someone with experience give me some suggestions...?

Thanks

You can make a really nice plinking load for the .44 with hard cast lead bullets and Unique powder.  I can't remember the data, but I got it out of my Hornady manual.  I used the Oregon Laser Cast I think, wasn't too bad to clean afterwards and cheap to shoot.

cast bullets direct out of NE should have lead bullets at good price.. most of my plinking loads are 200gr cast lead at 1200fps..

I've been buying hard cast bullets in 44 cal from Missouri bullet company. they shoot well in my 44 S&W.  7 or 8gr of unique and a their 240gr bullets make a great plinking load. Some great mid range loads, 1250fps,  can be made with unique, IMR 4227 and 4576
