Wa private pond rules??
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:11:16 PM »
Ok so my question is.. is fishing license required fishing in a pond that is entirely on private land? is it like some other states where there is an exclusion, but only for the owner and immediate family? looked through the regs, but didn't find any mention of it..

Only if you have fish and game stock it. Plus you have to let the public fish it.

Yes, you need a license.  Had G&F check us as we left private property.

We have had fish and game out to our pond plenty of times and never had them say anything.  We privately stock it and it is a man made pond so it would not make any sense why we would need licenses for it.  It would be like saying I needed a hunting license to shoot my own cows for food.

I was stopped a while back bowfishing in a private pond, there was people fishing along the bank that had permission as well when the game warden showed up. He said that since the pond was in a flood plain there was a possabillity that "state owned" fish were in the pond, a fishing license was required. Other than that I would assume that a license wouldn't be required?

if it is feed by a creek or was and existing pond I believe you need a licence . we had a private lake growing up in mason county , they built the lake where a swamp was and the state patrolled it and ticketed people for not having a licence
