Well I got my cameras hung! Damn I am out of shape... So I was setting up a camera and hear brush busting! I sat down and out comes a bear cub not ten feet away! Out comes the XDM .40 with 17 rounds at the ready. Then out comes momma bear, she sees me and comes into about 25 yds at a dead run( I was half squeezed on the pistol) she stops! I start waving my arms telling her to go away. She is chomping now like she is really thinking about eating me. I gave her a line in the dirt that if she crossed I was gonna shoot. Luckily she kinda just moved on. Thank god. I really didnt want to shoot her.

I seen tons of elk, a few deer! Most all cows had calves.  Only disturbing part of my trip was. Drove up spring creek all the way to the top and hiked down in a ways and never seen one animal. To me this was very strange.

My cameras are out and I will check them in two weeks just to make sure all is well. It felt great to be back hiking around in the woods again! Never ran into snow once.

Good to hear everything turned out OK with the bear.  Did you get any fishing in?  Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

Wow!  I'm glad she wasn't that hungry!!    :yike:   :chuckle:
Thankfully you didn't have to shoot her.     I have never been in that situation, but I am sure I would have needed to change my shorts after that!!!

I just bought my first pistol and will be carrying it with me now whenever I head in to the woods  :yike:

I am getting all of my cameras ready and can't wait to get over there to set them up!  I will let you know what I see.

I cow called in a big bull last year in a meadow approximately 1 mile north by 1 mile east of huckleberry forest camp, i followed a dirt bike trail down the north slope of that ridge until i came across a small boggy meadow with a game trail just past it. Followed the game trail, came across a series of 3 or 4 meadows and found a harem there. they cleared out by the third or fourth day of the season, but we called in a pretty large 6x6 the first day we hunted this area. I thought it was another hunter with a bugle, my partner wasn't convinced so we made a symphony of cow calling with 5 or 6 different cow calls and he came in! Very exciting, but we only had otc cow/spike tags.
