Bass fishing an upside down bobber?!
« on: May 30, 2013, 09:19:52 PM »

Hi,

Since we just had a thread on slip bobbers--

So I am a total newb to bass fishing as you can probably tell.  Caught a few dinks here and there but never 'ol Mossback.

Was out fishing a rocky bottomed point on Lake WA for smallmouths and some guy next to me changed his rig so it went:

<uPSiDe down bobber>-------->Snap Swivel------>Long Leader->hook with worm.

Is this like plunking off the bottom for trout?  You know with powerbait or whatever.

Why does the bobber look like it was upside down?  It was connected to his mainline with a round wire cylinder thing.  He caught some fish on it.

Hopefully that makes some sense!  haha

I caught one too by the way.  It was a small smalley.  Check him out!

Sounds like a lindy rig.

Are you sure it was a float and not a smooth type of sinker?

Thanks for the replies guys!  Here is a picture of the bobber type he was using.

#4 from the left is the closest looking one.  He somehow connected his mainline to the springy looking thing on the bobber.  It just looked weird to me but I guess he was just suspending a worm under the bobber is all.  The water we were fishing was shallow and this web page says it works in water ~ 5' deep.

Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Its just a regualr float not upside down. It looks like its upside down when its out of the water because of how it attaches to the line.

Ok, gotch ya. Similar to a quil bobber. Nothing beats them for shy biting fish. We make out own from wine corks and shishkabob skewers. My kids can fill a bucket with panfish with them.

Good luck!
