Done with Copalis
«

This was my first year bear hunting and as the old saying goes it only takes one to ruin it for ya...yep happen today while hunting the Copalis unit. I parked at a closed gate and hiked in like I've been doing these last few weeks and on my way out I ran into a dump truck driver who decided he was going to chew my butt off. I could barely get in a word. Ranting and raving about how I was blocking the gate which I wasn't. I couldn't park any closer to the woods without making my own driveway in the woods. He escorted me out and told me next time I get caught parking anywhere on a gravel road my truck would be towed at my expense and if I park in the grass that no part of my truck can hang over the gravel because if it does, he's not responsible for any damages. This was a message given to me by the truck driver from George who runs this area. When I got into my truck, he drove right around me with ease and had no problem getting around me. I was out there last weekend and ran into a Rayonier employee and he didn't say a word about where I was parked, in fact he offered to let me drive into the walk in only area but I declined since I was leaving. With only a week left of hunting, I'm done with Rayonier. I'm not going to waste anymore money or time in there trying to help them out and to be treated like that. I'll never apply for that unit ever again either.

Sounds like you ran into a guy having a bad day. Sucks for that to happen when you are doing your best which apparently was good enough for everyone else. Can't fault you for giving up on them...just don't give up on the bears....soon the regular season will be upon us and you won't be so restricted.

Copalis is a tough unit all the way around. I got locked behind gates twice in that unit by brush pickers.
You already paid for this year so you may as well give it another shot if you can.
FWIW.. we are not helping them out. They are helping WDFW out with allowing us access to hunt..

Be the bigger man and don't let one A-hole ruin it for you. Why let one guy screw up your hunting season?

Unfortunately He's not the only rayonier person I've run into and have had an issue with.

If he is threatening and intimidating you call the sheriff. If you are legal there is absolutely no room for it and maybe a complaint will be the only way it changes. The guys is a "richard" and needs to stay in his truck and keep it moving.
He likely has absolutely no say in anything anybody does in there anyways but has a stiffy for hunters.
Follow the rules and if he hassles you again call the sheriff and let him sort out the details. To serve and protect right

I will not let others stop me from hunting. Period. Obey the laws and if someone is harrassing you call the authorities!! Trust me I have dealt with the likes of people such as this clown! Dont back down!!!

If I decide to go back out I'm going to try another area altogether.

I got my deer in Copalis last year,Ive hiked around there quite a bit now that theres an ocean shores cabin in the family now.
Its too bad about the rough treatment there, Im kinda disappointed considering I was going to try for spring bear there next year.
