DONATE YOUR HIDE TO A GREAT CAUSE
« on: June 10, 2013, 09:59:38 PM »
Hello,

I'm Douglas Cowan I will be apprenticing with Wilderness Awareness School in the fall with their adult program. I know it is a bit early to be looking for hides because it is not hunting season.
When hunting season arrives please think about donating your hide to me to teach the art of brain tanning to adults.

I would greatly appreciate any hides that are going to be left in the woods.

You can contact me at 505-307-9399 or lasantavaca@gmail.com
calls are preferred but texts and emails are also accepted. Please leave a message if I do not answer and I will get back to you as soon as possible, I know no one wants a hide laying out for too long.

Thank you for reading this and your time.

Would these hides be for you or for the school? Thinking about putting my kid in the kids program next summer.

Last year I did several hides with the teen programs. I will not be involved in the planning or execution of kids programs in the upcoming school year. If someone at the school is interested in heading that up I will be happy to help them do it. Generally brain tanning is not an activity for kids under 14. It's a tough process.

My plan is to offer hide tanning throughout the year for free to adults who are in the schools adult program. I am not getting paid to do any of this nor will I be selling the hides. I am apprenticing for free at the school. Technically the school can only use hides with tag numbers provided but I will be doing this at my house not at the schools property.

Yes... if it is frozen right away or given to me within 24 hours of the kill.

You are a VERY early, or a little late... Every year the Warden Lions club has LOTS of coyotes. some times they have a hard time finding a home for them. The derby is held every year the first weekend of  Feb. (After all the major hunting seasons) I have seen them tak in 70-135 dogs before.  Depending on the year 1/3 would be in good enough condition to skin and do something with. Warden is locted a bout half way between Moses lake and Othello just E of Hwy 17. hope that helps for the future.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know who I could get in contact with about this event? I am getting a head start on this project. The adult program runs Sept 2013-June 2014 so February is perfect.
