fishing for kids around Wenatchee
« on: June 12, 2013, 08:11:32 AM »
Guys and Ladies from the Wenatchee area...

I am looking for a nice little place that I can take my kids fishing Saturday morning and have some action.  Been to Quincy Lakes and done well but would like something a bit closer.  I saw some people fishing down by Rock Island the other day but wasn't sure how good the fishing is.  Does anyone have any pointers for me?  I would like to stay close and go out for a few hours in the morning.

May be a few trout in the streams up in the Entiat area?

Not sure my little guy is ready for streams yet.  I was thinking fish lake but the time it takes to drive out there wont work for this saturday.  I may just try that fishing area around rock island.

Rock island ponds are pretty good. I've done well on stocker trout in the one by the golf course. There are a bunch of small crappie in there as well. I messed around out there a few weeks ago with a bobber and a little pink jig and caught one every cast. There is also a pit pond out there that is for kids only.

I know you wanted to keep it closer but have you thought about Wapato Lake or Roses up in Chelan?

Yes they are both good spots and perfect for a kid. We went to Wapato on opening day and did well. You can fish from the bank or rent a little boat for like $18. Pretty lake too.

Those are also good choices and can be good but they get hit pretty hard and can get fished out pretty quickly

Fish lake west of Leavenworth has tons of fish and can be fished from boat or the dock.

Is the fishing in the pit pond better?

Crappie, perch, bluegill etc...  Its to bad you didn't ask last week, the Entiat fish hatchery had a kids fishing day last Saturday and the fish were from 8 to 12 pound triploids. The Rock Island ponds get fished pretty hard. Roses and Wapato up by Manson have a good variety of fish including crappie, bluegill, bass, trout and even a few catfish. You can catch fish from the bank, but it is easier to catch the trout from a boat.
