Accutrigger Dilemma
« on: June 11, 2013, 08:40:11 AM »
I have a Savage chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. It was built before they started putting accutriggers on their guns so it has a rather heavy trigger. I also have a newer Savage 22 with accutrigger and it is a wonderful thing to shoot!

So here is my dilemma I want to improve the trigger on my hunting rifle, would I be better to just sell my rifle and buy an accutrigger model or take the current rifle to a gunsmith and have them work it over? About how much does a trigger job set you back?

I know on the cheap savage stevens line they have a screw under the stock that you can lighten the trigger by simply taking a little spring tension out.

Have you done any research on if its adjustable?

I think the website is savageshooters.com

There's a recipe on there for a home-brew non-accutrigger trigger job. I did it on one of my old savage rifles and it's slick and easy.

I put one of the Sharp Shooters Supply  Competition Triggers in my Savage Target/Egg Shoot gun. It is reasonable and works well, it was a pre Accutrigger model.  The older triggers are semi adjustable  and you can get a decent hunting trigger out of them.

Here's a link to the article mentioned on adjusting the Pre-Accutrigger trigger complete with nice photos.

You are welcome.  No first hand knowledge but lots of them out there and being used & talked about on various forums like here and this one specific to Savage owners/shooters:

Hey, if you're still paying attention to this thread, a couple of years ago I put the Timney trigger in my daughter's Savage 110 in .243.  It's a huge improvement over the old stock trigger.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
