While checking trail cams.....
« on: June 18, 2013, 07:41:00 AM »

I just got done checking my last trail cam and as I was walking out of the area when I heard a crunching clawing sound just to my right. I  stopped, looked over very slowly and saw a chocolate colored animal about 12 yards to my right, behind a stump. I had already notinced I had good wind in my face so I wasn't worried about my sent. I slowly grabbed my camera and started taking some pics.

This little fellow didn't have a care in the world except for what was in that stump. After a minute or two of severe stump searching it decided to move on and look for a differant stump. Now with me facing this little guy , it started to walk to my right. So in order to stay down wind I kept pace with it and got ahead of it knowing it was going to cross a old landing. The bear crossed in front of me @ about 15 yards away.

Now I had to move again and get ahead of this little guy.  I positioned my self to hopfully get some good pics of this bear as it walked though some ferns. What I didn't know was that its next stump on the morning menu was only 8 yards from me.

Now the bear was close and I didnt have any sent blocker on or camo. I was out in my blue jeans and flannel jacket. I thought for sure now it will bust me. This little bear had breakfast on its mind and that was it.

The wind did eventually swirl and got behind me and the bear busted out of there. Very fun way to end a scouting trip.

It was a great encounter. I've been around many bear, but this was the first time I was able to get pictures, and being that close was really cool.

I can almost see its nose twitching trying to figure you out.  They seem to learn from experience, this one has not had its share.

very sweet.  August is not that far away.  I had better get to the range and get the .300 Win Mag dialed in.
