He said because all the pressure last year that by the third day most the elk had been pushed out. So Brett you better talk him in to not waiting to long.

Not true.
.

:yeah:  The watershed is such a huge area majority of the elk never leave it. The only time they even leave is late winter when bulls are shedding out. They rarely leave

That was just advise from another guy. They may just be where you cant access them without horse or really sore feet.

Most of this hunt success is based on your mental fortitude.

Horses only help so much.  You cant get them down the ridges in there for the most part.

How many guys can you bring in with you on that hunt? Is it something like one guy can hunt along with you and 3 can help you pack out? I may have to head over with my buddy to help him with this mess he got himself into. I say mess because he has about 80lbs to lose if he even wants to think about not dying of a heart attack in that hole! Heck somehow I'm almost talking myself into this just because of the challenge. If you come down to scout the area from the edges stop by Table Rock LO and say hello. I'll be on the lookout starting July 1. The bulls start bugling toward the end of August, and there are some monsters in there. I met several tag "winners" last summer who visited the lookout while scouting the watershed and several had a "what have I got myself into" attitude. Years ago the watershed was patrolled by rangers on horseback so there are old access trails that might still be OK for a good horse or mule; check the old USGS topo maps to find the old trails. Unfortunately, you can't get into the watershed before the season to check out the access. Good luck!

Hey everybody I am new to the site. I am the Buddy Roperfive88 is referring to. I will take all the help I can get from anybody who has been in. I have no plans of getting greedy but am definitely going to put the leg work in. October can't get here soon enough.

Does anyone have any pics of a Watershed bull dead or alive??

Here is a link to my pictures and write up. It was easier to post the link since I am on my phone.

As far as rhe trails that the rangers used to use I was told that they aren't completely overgrown but it is still difficult.

Did you notice that for the first time there are 5 deer permits for the Watershed?
They will be in there stirring things up. They will be in there the first week of October.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.
