6.5x284 powder & bullets
« on: June 20, 2013, 08:01:05 PM »
Just wondering what those of you handloading for this round are using for powder and bullets. Any favorite load recipe would be appreciated. :)

I used to shoot allot of H4350 in the 6.5-284 chambering but switched over to RL-17. Primarily with a 140gr Berger VLD.

Any loads u care to share hammer? I'm gonna use 140 Bergers also.  I've had people recommend H4831sc,Retumbo and h-1000 also. Any experience with these?

Dont be afraid of smk's if you can't find the bergers. I have been using scenars with great luck too.

I found H1000 and Retumbo to be to slow for optimum performance with the 6.5-284. The RL-17 and H4350 produced much lower SD & ES.

RL-17 proved to be faster and more accurate in my rifle as compared to H4350.

Standard disclaimer! Start at a mid range book load and work up, what shoots
Well in my rifle and chamber may be over max for your rifle and chamber.

I settled on:

140gr Berger VLD
215M
Lapua brass
49.2gr RL-17

3077 out of a 31 inch, 8 twist Schneider P5 barrel.

The 6mmbr.com site always has exellent write ups on cartridges pertaining to accuracy, competition.

Do you have any pics of the gun and the groups it shot? Sounds like a decent load.

Odd question? Seeing not to long ago you started a complete thread on how you felt people shouldn't post pictures of their firearms( Refered to it as "Showing off".), how you prefered to keep what you had to yourself. Since then you have posted several pictures of your firearms. I'll dig your post up when I have time. I guess it's one of those opinions that's just suited to fit a particular mood. 😉

Took a break and found your post I had mentioned above.

Oh! No offense taken.👍 I was only being respectfull of your dislike of "Showing off guns" opinion. Just keeping the Guns & Ammo forum as comfortable as I can for you. 😀 Hope you have a exceptional day Dewey.
