New bow for big bull tag!!!
« on: June 21, 2013, 06:41:54 PM »
Ok boys lets hear your thoughts!  I've been in the market for a new bow for awhile now.  Drawing a tocannon bull tag kinda pushed me to getting serious about it! ;).   So I have a 28" draw I want to pull 70# and I want speed smoothness and quiet at the shot.  What bow would you guys buy?

Bowtech Experience or Hoyt Spyder Turbo.  BTW, I just swapped my Spyder Turbo for an Experience.  I'd still recommend the Spyder Turbo if you're not concerned about the 6" brace.   :twocents:

They are all pretty good these days, shoot them all, one will stick out and feel best to you. If you're in the Kitsap area, let me know and you can shoot my new Martin Alien, 28 1/2" draw, 70#..it will surprise you...

Ya I'm planning on going to some bow shops and shooting all of the top bows.  Do you guys have any negative feed back about any bows on the market right now?

What is your price point?  I prefer Hoyt but the Bear bows get you a lot of bang for your buck.  Elite is putting out some good bows too.

you only need 70 more grains to be legal 70 lbs you need 420 grains my cpxl witch is slower than the cpx flings the 420s at 70at 311 with a 30inch draw. the cpx is about 15fps faster . I'm sure your creed shoots well it's just not a bow tech  :chuckle: just having fun don't get bunched ! heres  the first test grou I shoot at 40 yards and I was having vane contact !

Nope, PSE Omen still owns that title. Faster than the monster 5 with 1/2" more brace.

Its been said a thousand times before, YOU shoot a bunch of bows, and YOU choose what feels best. All brands have great quality and performance and every bow has its place.

You guys all make valid points and I really appreciate your opinions.  Bean counter is probably the smartest!  But I have had my bowtech Gaurdian since 07 so I'm just ready for somthing new.  Price is not an issue on this I don't buy bows often so I'm gonna buy the boy that feels the best.

It's fun to mess with guys that are brand loyal , but really there are many nice bows out there , you like your bow tech now and the experience and insanity are very good shooting bow . I shot a cpx and experience at 30 inch and they really shot well the cpx is just a bit faster and a little less for giving ' . the nice thin I found about the bowtechs is you can take a 70 lbs bow and back it 60 and it stillshoot well the older bows really like to have there limbs close to max load.

Buy a Hoyt and you should be happy. Find that good balance between speed and arrow weight to keep a flat shooting arrow with good nock down power and  a real strong cut on contact  broadhead and you will have a great elk hunting bow. Hoyt should fit that criteria.

Hoyt gets my vote for smooth pleasurable shooting, but the newer mathews mr5 mcpherson is what I'm shooting. I chose it because its aggressive and a hotrod type bow. Its fast, maybe the fastest and flattest I've shot. 4.5 lbs but you get 360+ fps +/- your arrow setup.
If your lookin for a well rounded easy draw smooth bow, try the hoyt line.
If you want an aggressive hotrod, try the feel of a newer 2012+ monster 5.
Just my vote on a few to pick up and try!

I would put Elite and Hoyt on the list of bows to try out. My last 3 have been Hoyt. Didn't see myself changing any time soon. They are great bows.  I was planning on getting a Spyder Turbo until I shot the Pulse. If you want larger brace height, check out the Answer. Really liking the Elites. They are very smooth and have a solid back wall with high let off. You have to decide what you want for yourself though. Don't know if I would want a 5" brace height on a hunting bow.

I love my PSE vendetta 330 fps ibo with 7" brace height with a longer ATA and probably one of the smoothest draws out there. Also like the Hoyt spyder turbo if your looking for a little more speed.

Be carefull with ibo speed , when you go shot bows take a 420 grain arrow with you and see how they perform apples to apples . I found the cpx was about 15fps faster but I liked the 7 1/2 brace height and the longer axle to axle . have fun !

I would go to a bow shop and shoot a few different bows and see what feels best to you ..Yeah there are bows that are faster but if it does not feel right to you then it will take you longer to get used to it ...I like a shorter bow for getting threw the brush and I like a smaller grip on my bows ...there are So many good bows out there today So I would get what fits and feels good to you ..Money is always a factor too ..Get what you can afford but of good quality

Finally someone pulled out the bow I was gonna suggest in this last post.
It's the bow I would have if my Alphamax wasn't still shooting great.

Obviously shoot them all and then pick.......kinda like choosing a steady girl.

I went though this process a few months ago, I shot every bow I could get my hands on, and to be honest, I really liked them all. The Chill, Insanity, and the Spyder 30 were my final three. I ended up going with the Spyder and I love everything about it. I don't know if I could actually say it was better than the other two, I just thought it would be the best all around hunting bow. Shoot them all, and pick the one you feel best about, they are all good.

My best advice is to shoot a lot of different bows before you make a decision. I recently purchased a 2012 Hoyt Carbon Matrix and love it. I still enjoy shooting my old Mathews from time to time though.

Ill throw the bowtech destroyer into the hat. I love mine. Smooth draw and quiet. The hump into the valley is more tahn my last bow, but don't even notice now. At 29" draw with 390gr arrow it shoots 295fps. Not the fastest, but I shoot it accurately. Enough to get full pass through on a block target at 40 yyds (not a worn out target).
I would agree with everyone to shoot some bows and see what you like best.

IMO Elite GT500 is probably one of the best bows ever made. I was dead set on keeping it till I shot my dads new Strother SR-71, to this day its the most silent and dead in the had on the shot bow I have ever shot. Not to mention it IBO's at 342.6 with a 29in Draw, peep and loop. O thats also at 65lbs.
If I was in the market right now I wouldnt hesitate to buy a new Obsession.

Hey guys really appreciate all the input!  I did what everyone said and went and shot a bunch if different bows and all kinds of brands.  It came down to the Mathews creed and the bow tech experience, same money I just could decide which one felt better to shoot!  So I went with the bow that was slightly heavier but faster.
The bowtech experience took my money and I love it!!!!  Big thanks to Spokane valley archery for setting up all the boys and letting me take my time on picking one! Great shop go check them out if your in Spokane area.

Time to go knock down a 350 bull in the blues!!!

That's what it takes! Many different bows in the hand to find what feels best in yours! Those are two of the best choices out there as an opinion. Good luck on that bull!
