I am a fan of helping with great tags, but I have to agree with Hunt and Mav, why join and ask for help as soon as you get a tag? You may get some help but if not, its a fun hunt and have a blast.
How many points did you draw with? I have hunted this unit 14 years and it amazes me how many people draw and know nothing about it. I'm with every one else why would you put in for something you know zero about. Put the time in and it will be a good hunt.
I am new to the page, I have read it before but till now never been a member. Me and two of my buddies where lucky enough to get drawn for the Dayton unit 162. We have all been hunting since we were kids, but mostly in Western Wa, and Montana, we have had some great success's in the past, and have killed some nice Bulls, but this is the first time for any of us hunting the Blues. I know there is a lot of private land, and have heard many different things, about how and where to hunt this unit. My question to any of you that have been lucky enough to drawn this tag in the past, or live in the area is: Is there a list of land owners that will let you hunt on their land? Does the federal ground have any good Bulls on it and if so when? What happens after the spike hunters get going, do all the elk head for private land for safety? I would very much appreciate any info you have to give.Thank you
Welcome to the site BD and congrats on the draw. If you don't mind answering, I'm curious why you guys applied for a area you have never been to before. What was it that made you guys decide to apply for that tag? I've been fortunate to have friends recommend hunts to me and been along with other friends on their hunts before applying in areas, I'm just curious if its sites like this, TV shows, magazines etc that convinces guys to do it is all.

[/quoteWe know other hunting buddies that hunt in the blues, and we have been putting in for for that area for a number of years, and have always dreamed of getting drawn for what we considered to be one of the best elk units in the state. Now that we have drawn, the research begins, we are already planning one of many scouting trips. One of the reasons I joined this forum is to gain info on an area I don't know, isn't that one of the main reason there are sites like this, to help our fellow hunter?[/quotAnd to contribute!
